2021 VIK La Piu Belle Millahue, Chile

In 2004, Alexander Vik, a Norwegian entrepreneur, proposed the creation of a world-class vineyard to produce a unique Wine. To find the best terroir, he gathered a team of oenologists, climentologists, geologists, viticulturalists and agronomists to search South America.

The studies and the ongoing work in the vineyard and at the winery are led by Patrick Valetten 2006, Alexander Vik choose the best terroir with optimal climatic conditions for grape growing and purchases 4,325 hectares (10,688 acres) in Chile. The specific location chosen was the Millahue Valley, or “Place of Gold”, as named by the indigenous people. Here “VIK” was born and it embodies the perfect fusion between man, experience, land, climate and the most advanced technology.

Our vineyard, or “Place of Gold”, is located in the interior of the valley among innumerable gorges, offering us a variety of unequaled terroir and small microclimates – each with distinct exposures and cooled by coastal breezes -- giving it the complexity sought after and assuring us that we are on track to reach our objective of producing the best wine in South America.

Country: Chile

Region: Cachapoal Valley

Varietal: Cabernet Franc; Carmenere

(92 Points) The 2021 La Piu Belle is 76% Carmenere, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, sourced from Millahue in the Cachapoal Valley. Aged for 20 months in French oak barrels with 15% in clay amphorae, this purple wine offers fruit-forward aromas: blackberry and plum, along with a faintly ashy layer and a hint of pepper. Indulgent, juicy and clingy on the palate, the fine-grained tannins and grippy mouthfeel lead to an intense, savory finale.  Vinous
