Winery Notes
The vines, aged 30 years on average, are divided between Sémillon (74%), Sauvignon Blanc (24%), which brings the note of freshness typical of the Château's wines, and Muscadelle (2%).
The Rayne Vigneau vineyard has been sitting on a magnificent hilltop overlooking the Sauternes since the estate was created at the beginning of the 17th century . The Vigneau de Bommes named the vineyard, the Château, the Seigneurie and the Vigneau family, who were the first owners. Gabriel de Vigneau appears in writings as early as 1635. His son Étienne married Jeanne Sauvage, daughter of the lord of Yquem, and personally took charge of the destiny of the property in 1681. Madame de Rayne, born Catherine de Pontac, bought the Vigneau estate in 1834.
The official classification of 1855 places Vigneau among the premier crus of Sauternes. In 1867, the great broker Daney gave it first place immediately after Yquem. It was Albert de Pontac, great nephew of Madame de Rayne, who gave the name "Rayne Vigneau" to the property.
In 1961 the estate was divided. The vineyard and wine-growing facilities were sold. The château, the outbuildings and the park remained in the family. Investments and considerable work were made by the successive owners of the wine-growing estate to improve the quality of the wines. Between 2004 and 2015, Château de Rayne Vigneau belonged to CA Grands Crus, a subsidiary of the Crédit Agricole Group, which implemented an optimization plan for the entire vineyard.
Today, Château de Rayne Vigneau, bought by the Trésor du Patrimoine group, is managed by Vincent Labergère, assisted by the advice of oenologist Henri Boyer. The château embodies a sure value of the appellation, claiming, vintage after vintage, a style full of intensity, length and freshness.
