2002 Tor Wines Syrah Old Clones Los Carneros

The story of this blend ... OK, here is the story I never thought I was to write, but it says volumes about the wine. The plan at harvest was to make separate vineyard designated wines. We keep them separate in the winery, tasted them separate, then tasted them together. Together was always the better wine. It drove us nuts. Hudson is more a fruit driven wine with notes of kirsch, wild huckleberry, and some exotic Province herb. The Durell was always northern Rhone in its tannin structure, and possesses a very sexy white pepper note. It is so big and bad it may outlive me, but I wanted to drink my share of the wine before that date, so we dabbled with a blend of the two vineyards. Voila! Both became a much better wine together than alone. This is unmistakably Syrah. Something that I feel is sometimes uncommon in the new world Syrahs. It is so, thanks to two outstanding fruit sources, and less the winemakers." Tor Winery.
