(90 points) Made with consulting genius Luca d'Attoma, this 2000 Rosso di Sera (a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorina made from yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare, and aged 18 months in French oak) exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color in addition to sweet aromas of espresso, blackberries, cassis, smoke, and fudge. Medium to full-bodied, dense, and sweet (from ripe fruit, not sugar), with a long, concentrated finish, this impressive effort should age well for 10-12 years. It is bottled unfiltered.
