the 2014 Fog Theory is exceptionally dark and rich. Aromas of ripe raspberry and dark berry fill the glass with hints of vanilla. The 20% new oak allows the grape tannin to shine, while still contributing barrel spices to the palate. A full, lush mouthfeel is accented by soft notes of nutmeg and pepper on the finish. 2014 was a prolific vintage in the Sta. Rita Hills. The growing season had warmer than average temperatures and a small amount of rainfall. However, the cool ocean breezes that sweep the vineyards daily led to ideal timing and even growth of the vines. A slightly earlier bloom and fruit set led into warm summer months that contributed rich flavor concentration and even fruit maturity.
