Jean-Paul Thévenet is part of a group of winemakers, along with Marcel Lapierre, Guy Breton and Jean Foillard, that influential importer Kermit Lynch dubbed the "Gang of Four." In the 1980s these men began making Beaujolais according to more traditional winemaking and viticultural practices, eschewing the industrialized, over-commercialized plonk that much Beaujolais had become. Jean-Paul farms his small, five-hectare domaine in Morgon according to biodynamic and organic principles. The wine is made from two parcels of vines, one that's 45 years old and the that's 110 years old. The wines are aged for 6-8 months in old Burgundian barrels and bottled without fining or filtration. They are stunning Morgons, with incredible pedigree, bright red fruit, minerality and floral undertones. And since there are only 2,000 cases produced, Thévenet is able to dedicate himself entirely to quality in every bottle.
