1973 D'Oliveira Verdelho Madeira

1973 D'Oliveira Verdelho Madeira image

Unique, but little understood, Madeira comes from the mid-Atlantic island of the same name, and is the world's most famous "cooked" wine. Madeira undergoes a singular, slow process of natural oxidation that leaves a tangy wine with caramel and earthy flavors as well as deep botanical flavors of orange peel, nutmeg, cardamom and walnuts. The D'Oliveira Verdelho is particularly balanced, with great acidity that balances many of the strong earthy flavors.
