2021 Ovid Hexameter Red Wine Napa Valley

(98 points) Effusive blueberry and rose petal aromas, then juicy, appetizing black and red berries in this multilayered blend based on cabernet franc. Blueberry syrup meets light wood char, star anise and grilled herbs, but the fruit dominates. The tannins are so racy. ---James Suckling

Winery Notes: The 2021 season marked the second consecutive year of low rainfall across much of the west and it was no different at the OVID estate. The dry and mild spring brought budbreak about in late March, close to its historical average. The weather warmed slightly for bloom and set ideal long and loose clusters. Summer brought weather and passed without incident, setting the stage for an early and leisurely harvest which commenced mid-September and concluded during the first week of October.
