(95 points) "In complete contrast to the formidable, impressive, yet largely undrinkable 1985, the blockbuster 1982 Howell Mountain Cabernet is beginning to shed much of its tannins and reveal lavish quantities of sweet cassis fruit. This full-bodied wine is more flattering to smell and taste than the 1985. The nose offers that mineral component often seen in the Howell Mountain wines, a nice touch of oak, and vividly pure cassis and black-raspberry fruit. Although this splendidly opulent, fleshy, chewy wine reveals some noticeable tannin, the overall impression is one of lushness, as well as stunning richness and length. This gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon should continue to drink well for 10-15 more years. In a blind tasting, Dunn's Cabernet would offer many 1982 Bordeaux stiff competition."
