2016 Chateau Verdignan Haut Medoc

The Château Verdignan vineyards stretch over 60 hectares in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, a town neighbouring Saint-Estèphe in the Pauillac area. We have 40 hectares of lovely gravel-clay soils surrounding the château.

Our village of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, in the Haut-Médoc appellation, benefits greatly from the influence of the Gironde Estuary.

The terroir at Verdignan is composed of the three grape varieties common to the appellation: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc.

The average age of the vines in the gravel soils is around 45 years.

A very large estate 70 hectares with mostly Cabernet Sauvignn 65%, 30% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, Mailihi family owns these two estates famous negiciant family in Bordeaux. This wine has a classic Bordeaux nose, 40 year old vines, red currant and cherry fruit on the nose with a good hand of fresh earth and cigar box spice. A very smooth and easy drinking wine this vintage is showing nicely with fine tannins and a host of that earth on the finish but still has a solid core of fruit, nice structure the sign of a great vintage in Bordeaux.
