2016 San Filippo Lo Scorno Rosso di Montalcino

Located in the SE part of Montalcino, close to Fanti and Barbi, very rocky, poor soils and the vineyards are over 25 years old, they only produce 45,000 bottles. This wine spends one year in 50% new barrique and then into large Slovonian oak, they blend the large and small barrels to give a smoother and rounder wine but not cover the delicate fruit. Has a touch of toasty oak spice to the light red berry fruit some light dried herbs, sage and fresh plowed earth, porcini mushroom notes. A very elegant wine with smooth soft tannins and a nice fresh finish echoing the light spice and the earthy notes through the finish, light red berry fruit and nice length on the finish for a rosso.
