2001 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano D'Abruzzo
This is one of the top producers in an area that has an ocean of average wines. Valentini is the top producer of wine from Abruzzo and then you have Pepe, who is the only producer that has older vintage wines that have been stored at the winery and then released, which is the best case scenario in terms of provinence. This 2001 is stunning with and array of oriental spices, dried potpouree of flowers and wild herbs, sour cherry and cranberry like fruit, stunningly complex and even better on the second day. Bright red berry fruit on the tongue with a full array of spice and floral notes from the nose lasting through the finish, this wine is drinking at its peak, perfectly aged and ready for your belly!
