I always say that we are most impressed with the wine and that great packaging is also a plus but I am recommending the juice inside the pretty bottle. With that said, it is nice when a product has both great packaging and great juice inside the bottle. The name is also important and if you can get all three of those things in alignment then you have the potential for greatness. This is a new wine from Doug Phinney, although I will admit these big alcoholic wines are not my favorite style, I still can apreciate it when it is done well and even though this wine has a lot of jammy fruit there is also some substance here and a lingering dark earthy quality to the finsih. 2010 Orin Swift Palermo Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Price: $42.00 Sale $36.96 Case $429.00 Ripe seductive bouquet of jammy fruit dark cherry, fig and dark spices, very forward with an almost candied character to the fruit. This wine is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc purchased from top hillside vineyard sites in Napa which are the same vineyards used in the Mercury Head and Papillon. Every year they buy more grapes than they need for these two wines so the best of what is left goes into the Palermo. This wine is jammy on the tongue with jammy fruit ripe round tannins, a big wine but with soft edges and still has good balance and freshness on the finish despite its weighty 15.5% alcohol. If you like big and fruity this is it! Showing lingering dark earth through the finish. Finish 45+ Excellent The mysterious photo of the skelaton pirate like character on the label was created in collaboratin with photographer Vincent Musi, known for his work with the National Geographic Society.
