Great white wine of BURGUNDY located in the town of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. The grape variety is Chardonnay. Our vineyard in Corton-Charlemagne is made up of plantations of several different years, aged more than 50 years to about ten years. Regular planting combines the power of old vines with the finesse of young plants.
The Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne carries historical memories. Corton is a compound meaning "the court of Otto". The cortis type designating the enclosure, the farmyard in medieval Latin has become the equivalent of the Gallo-Roman villa to designate an estate whose owner originally belonged to the Frankish aristocracy.
Charlemagne's name is linked to a famous donation. The church of Aloxe dedicated to Saint Medard was placed under the patronage of the collegiate church of Saulieu to which Charlemagne gave vines in 775.
Vinification in white: we bring the grapes in small boxes to keep them intact, the pressing is carried out with a pneumatic press more respectful of the grapes. The whole grapes are placed in the press and pressing lasts two hours. After settling for 24 hours at low temperatures, the grape juice is placed in barrels for fermentation, the proportion of new barrels is 30%. The ageing on lees with batonnage lasts until July, bottling is carried out after 12 months of ageing.
This south-west-facing Grand Cru is located on silico-limestone marls in a very steep slope. These shallow soils, consisting of friable rocks, are quite light, poor and very stony.
The Corton-Charlemagne have the character of the terroir, flint, due to the situation on the rock. The wines are heady and full-bodied with a beautiful golden reflection. The fullness of this lord is reached after 5 to 10 years of cellar, he then reveals his aromatic richness of honey, roasted almonds with exquisite mineral touches.
