It's an imposing, formidable Syrah (83%, with 4.7% each of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah) sourced from the Bien Nacido, Rancho Boa Vista and Sanford & Benedict vineyards, yet it's graceful and fragrant, too. Produced with 35% whole clusters and aged 20 months in French oak (63% new), it's a spicy, deeply satisfying wine with a finish that melds into soft, satin-edged tannins.
