2011 Bodegas Montecillo 22 Barricas Gran Reserva, Rioja DOCa, Spain

(92 Points) Earthy berry and plum aromas come across as mature but not old, with meaty accents. The palate on this barrel-selected gran reserva is layered and filled out by generous tannins. Flavors of prune, raisin, cassis and blueberry are filled out well by oak tones, but not overpowered. This warm-vintage gran reserva feels smooth on the finish; drink through 2028. — Michael Schachner
