2023 Louis Jadot Beaune Theurons 1er Cru

Les Theurons is a large vineyard composed of five separate parcels which descend the slope in a series of terraces. Soils range from stones near the top to dense clay and marl at the base, each imparting a unique signature. The eventual cuvee blends these subtle textural differences. Pinot Noir here is harvested manually and brought to the nearby winery for triage, destemming, and natural fermentation in passive oak vats. After alcoholic fermentation is complete the wine is racked into oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and extended aging. Approximately 16 months later the cuvee is reassembled for bottling.

Harvest Note

2023 was a hot and dry growing season which was saved by significant rain in June. This allowed the vines to withstand summer heat and drought and led to ideal sanitary conditions and a modest yield yet concentrated vintage.

Tasting Note

This is a classic medium to full-bodied Beaune red characterized by aromas of earth, bright red berry fruit, and dried flowers. The texture features dusty tannins and bright acidity, both to soften over time. The finish is linear and long with more secondary flavors to emerge as the wine ages.
