2015 Domaine Ponsot Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru Cuvee Tres Vieilles Vignes

A distinctly cool and highly restrained nose requires aggressive swirling to coax the reluctant aromas of both red and black currant, humus, earth and a whiff of that gamy Gevrey character to reveal themselves. There is an impressive underlying tension to the sleekly textured and overtly muscular broad-shouldered and mineral-driven flavors that exhibit superb persistence on the hugely long finish that is focused and reasonably well-balanced though there is a hint of warmth. Even so, this should very amply repay extended cellaring as the underlying material is just too good for very much to go awry.   Review Date: 01/2017
