2023 Passing Time Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain

2023 Passing Time Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain image

Tasting Notes: This year’s Red Mountain is very dark in color, with black cherry, black raspberry, crushed red currants, ground espresso, cacao nibs, anise seed, and dusty Red Mountain earth. Though quite dense and muscular in its youth, there’s already a silky texture emerging that is the signature of this wine. Hold on to it for a few years if you can, and it will last a long time in the cellar.

Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Aging: Aged for 20 months in 75% New French oak

Vineyards: 60% Klipsun Vineyard, 23% Red Mountain Vineyard, 17% Kiona “Heart of the Hill” Vineyard

97 Points - International Wine Report: "The 2023 Passing Time Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain shows a striking midnight-purple center that fades to a radiant violet rim. Sourced entirely from Cabernet grown at Klipsun, Red Mountain Vineyard, and Kiona Heart of the Hill, it radiates sheer strength and concentration. Aromas of graphite, espresso bean, and juniper complement an intense core of blackcurrant and black cherry. The palate brims with volume and intensity, its broad tannins tightly woven yet polished, giving the wine formidable architecture. Accents of dark chocolate and roasted chestnut emerge with air, layering against the vibrant fruit. The finish is bold and enduring, with a mineral thread that carries its power forward. Structured, commanding, and deeply expressive, this Cabernet captures the essence of Red Mountain and will evolve perfectly for decades. Highly recommended."

95 Points - Vinous "The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain wafts up with a seductive bouquet of dusty red currants, geraniums and spiced blood orange. It is surprisingly silken and supple, with admirable weight and polished red fruits that slowly saturate. Structured and long yet not aggressive, the 2023 tapers off with elegance,  eaving a slight bitter dark chocolate twang that fades slowly."

95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck : "Tasted in barrel and now from finished bottle, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain continues to impress, the 100% varietal grapes from Klipsun, Red Mountain Vineyard, and Heart of the Hill, three iconic sites that have been around for some time. Dense blue fruit coats a powerful palate of full-bodied richness and dusty tannins, with a signature touch of restraint and persistent structure. This should age well over 15-20 years; hold and enjoy 2030-2040."

93 Points - Wine Advocate: "The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain matured for 20 months in 75% new French oak. Initial wafts of cast iron, tar and coffee beans give way to nuances of cassis and garrigue. The full-bodied palate is powerfully styled, its concentrated flavors framed by muscular, grainy tannins, and its new oak is well integrated. It’s balanced by bright acidity and has a long, floral finish."
