2020 was a warm vintage in Washinton state. We experienced normal budbreak and favorable early-season growing conditions, resulting in nice fruit-set and healthy clusters. The Royal Slope, a higher appellation in central Washington state, benefited from unique conditions throughout the growing season, resulting in grapes that featured particularly impressive phenolics. While concerns about wildfires mounted late in the season, our vineyards in this area of Washington and the fruit we harvested weren't impacted. The ensuing wines are stunning, highlighting plush, elegant varietal flavors and an impressive structure that will help these wines mature gracefully over the next decade.
A saturated nose of plums, blackberry puree and sweet baking spices. Swirling brings up vanilla bean intermixed with wild bramble fruits. The palate is dense and plush, packed with ripe black cherry, raspberry, cardamom, coffee and a dusting of cocoa powder. The wine is lively and energetic on the palate with a very supple, rich midpalate that builds to a big finish with a nice balance between the acidity, oak, fruit.
