Sourced from two cool-climate parcel two ridges inland from the Pacific Ocean in the far north corner of Sonoma. Ellenbach Pinot Noir is a deep, vibrant ruby in the glass, verging on purple. It displays a beguilingly complex nose of black cherry, raspberry, ripe cranberry, anise, rose petal, lavender, and cinnamon. On the palate, dark plum and blackberry combine beautifully with the anise that carries through from the nose. Bright acidity keeps these flavors vibrant, and allows this wine to be dark without being full-bodied. A hint of cranberry, fern and briar on the finish leave no doubt that this is a classic Pinot Noir.

Melee California 2009
Price: $28.25       Sale $24.86          Case $288

2009 Melee 95% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 968 cs made. “Many years ago, I was traveling in Southern France and fell in love with the Grenache wines being made from the area.Big, dark, elegant wines oozing with passion and varietal flavor. Unmistakable. I began collecting these wines and opening them for friends as often as I could. A few years ago, I discovered a small Grenache vineyard in CentralCalifornia that reminded me of the vineyards I had visited in France. The soils are comprised of huge amounts of broken shale and a touch of limestone, which is very unusual for California. The climate is ideal for Grenache -- warm, if not hot, days that are countered by the cooling breezes of the Pacific at night. I tried to purchase the fruit but found that it was under contract. I waited, and I waited…. Finally, I got the opportunity to purchase the fruit and now have a wine that is in bottle and ready to drink”. Tuck Beckstoffer Wild, untamed but at the same time beautiful and elegant, Melee possess beautifully integrated and striking aromas of fresh alpine strawberries, rhubarb, and wet granite. The palate showcases a wealth of herbal notes combined with dried plums, apple skin and fresh cracked white pepper. A small amount of Syrah from the cooler region of California’s Mendocino coast adds structure and tremendous length while maintaining immense power, balance and structure.

A bit about the wineries:

Tuck Beckstoffer and his family moved to the Napa Valley in 1975 to begin their involvement in the California Grape Growing business. His love of the farming and wine making process began almost immediately as a young boy. As a teenager, Tuck worked in the vineyards of Napa and Mendocino Counties, working with field crews and operating equipment in Beckstoffer owned and managed vineyards. During college, he spent his summers working in the soon to be famous wineries of the Napa Valley alongside some of the most influential winemakers in California, learning winemaking techniques and sensory evaluation. After University, Tuck returned to Napa to work for Beckstoffer Vineyards.  In 1997 he began producing a miniscule amount of Cabernet under the Tuck Beckstoffer label that quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed wines to ever come out of the Napa Valley. From there Tuck went on to create Tuck Beckstoffer Wines.  From the easy-drinking Hogwash Rosé to the eponymous TB, these labels represent some of the most exciting, value driven California wines on offer. Tuck’s personal knowledge and experience in the vineyard and cellar allow for opportunities to produce and deliver wines that meet (or exceed) his commitment to producing an exquisite product inside and outside the bottle.

75 Wine Company
Named for 1975, the year that Tuck Beckstoffer piled into a faux wood-paneled Ford Country Squire station wagon with the rest of his family bound for America’s oenological paradise, the Napa Valley.   Seventy Five Wine Company is dedicated to pioneering change by producing premium wines of great distinction at reasonable price and over-delivering on wine quality, pedigree and price.
Fun facts:  ’75 The Year that was:  One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest swept the Oscars, The Wiz opens on Broadway, Saturday Night Live premiers, Elvis turns 40, Tiger Woods appears, Jimmy Hoffa disappears, Jack Nicklaus takes home the green jacket, Smokey the Bear retires to the National Zoo, Reds defeat Red Sox in seven games, Muhammad Ali wnes the Thrilla in Manilla

AMULET
the very word conveys an air of mystery or luck. On the label a vine cross-section revealing scores of concentric rings; a hidden record of a long productive life captured and revealed.  In the bottle the fruits of that labor, thoughtfully cultivated, carefully harvested and lovingly evolved, a visceral reminder of the hidden life of the vine

Mockingbird Wines
“A curious nostalgia began to form in the early days of California’s wine renaissance. At the time no one knew it would be famous — folks were simply taking risks. One of the risks that seems to have been lost is the art of blending. There is an emphasis on single vineyard wines — wines that speak of a place. Sometimes this place is compelling — often times it is not. Mockingbird seeks to revisit our heritage. By crafting a meticulously blended wine — one sourced from some of the greatest vineyards in the Napa Valley — we've made a wine that is an expression of the greatest value. A wine where each vineyard contributes to a whole far greater than the individual parts.
Mockingbird is about connecting the past to the present. It’s the story of the courageous people who created and shaped the Napa Valley. This is my wine. This is their wine’–A. Tuck Beckstoffer 2007 Mockingbird Red:  100% Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon in Oakville. This wine exhibits a dark opaque color along with incredible density and richness and showcases blueberry, cream de cassis, spice box and sweet oak.  Phenomenal concentration, purity and balance are all in the bottle with this wine.   This is truly a great Napa Valley Cabernet that can be cellared for decades if you can wait that long!  160 cases produced “Mockingbird is about connecting the past to the present. It's the story of the courageous people who created and shaped the Napa Valley. This is my wine. This is their wine”.
