"The First Duty of wine is to be Red...the second is to be a Burgundy" -- Harry Waugh
If you have been paying attention to my propaganda over the years you know that Burgundy is one of my favorite wine regions of the world and when we recently acquired these old wines from one of our cellar acquisitions I immediately set these old dogs aside for scientific evaluation. I have never had a Burgundy from the 1929 vintage and last 1949 that I had was from Bouchard Per et Fils the baby Jesus and although it was 15 years ago I still remember it as being one of the single greatest wines that has ever passed these lips.
We have an incredible collection of older burgundies on the table this evening going back to 1929, including 1949, 1953, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1976 and the youngest wine tonight is from the 1978 vintage!!
We even have a few of these wines available for sale and right now we have an incredible collection of wines from the 1970’s in the store right now, so I have included them on this offering.
Vintage Burgundy Tasting at Wine Watch

1929 Maison Francois Martenot Vosne Romanee
One of the most famous villages of the Côte de Nuits and this is a great vintage for Burgundy. Specialist of Burgundy wine, the Maison François Martenot has been the worthy heir of its renowned founder Lucien Gustave Martenot since the XIXth century.

Another legendary vintage from Burgundy and this is one of my favorite Grand Crus from the north end of the village of Chambolle Musigny.
