There's nothing serious in mortality.
All is but toys; renown and grace is dead,
The wine of life is drawn, and the mere lees
Is left this vault to brag of.

Silent Auction Items

Chimney Rock Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap District 2006  (3 Liter)
Estimated Value $200
Garnet hue with a feathered rim. Cherry-menthol aromas open to clove, vanilla, and a hint of citrus peel. Chalky, cherry fruit with rough-hewn tannins and a slightly acidic bite in the finish. A compact offering loaded with fruit, tannins, and acids; will continue to improve

Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella 2000 (2 bottles)
Estimated Value $250
The 2000 Amarone (70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 5% Molinara) is big, rich and sexy in the way it combines fresh, vibrant rose petals, red cherries and spices with a firm, structured personality. Although it is not especially generous in its fruit, it does offer notable poise in a powerful, muscular style. Anticipated maturity: 2007 - 2012.  (90 Points)  eRobertparker.com # 173 Oct 2007

Achaval Ferrer Malbec Magnum 2004
Estimated Value $300
Dark and tight, with a tremendous core of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, covered for now under dark chocolate, graphite and floral notes. Long, vivid finish has layers of fruit and a great minerally spine. Should be sleek and beautiful when it opens up fully. Best from 2007 through 2014. 650 cases made. (95 points)  Wine Spectator September 2006

Tolaini Valdisanti Supertuscan 3 Liter 2004
Estimated Value $100
A rich, lush and sensual Cabernet based wine that expresses the best of Bordeaux through the prism of Tuscan terroir

Paco & Lola Albarino  3 Liter  2007
Estimated Value $50
Paco & Lola  Albarino .  Very fresh flavors balanced by liveyly acidity giving a crisp, attractive taste, good body and very pleasant on the palate.  True varietal character that is elegant and persistant.

Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Magnum 2001
Estimated Value $50
Richard Arrowood says this wine is reminiscent of the exceptional 1991 and 1995 vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon. In the nose, intoxicating aromas of black cherry and peppercorn mingle with hints of subtle smoke and tar licorice. In the mouth, rich black fruit flavors are complemented by nuances of lavender and clove. The finish is long, with a lingeringessence of black cherry

Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva 2005 Magnum Estimated Value $70
This elegant Chianti Riserva is only one to be ranked in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 three out of the last four years.  90 Points WS

Muga Reserva Selecion Especial Rioja 2004 (Magnum)
Estimated Value $105
The 2004 Muga Reserva Seleccion Especial is deep crimson-colored. Dense and packed, it offers up aromas of cedar, spice box, mineral, pencil lead, and assorted black fruits. It nicely conceals enough structure for 6-8 years of evolution. This lengthy effort should drink well through 2030. (94 Points)  Wine Advocate # 175, Feb 2008

Le Vigna De Zamo Pinot Grigio 2005 (3 Magnums)
Estimated Value $195
This Pinot Grigio is made in the traditional style, they leave the juice in contact with the skins for several days to extract some of the flavor and this also gives the wine structure and an added dimension of flavor to the finish.  Asian pear and fresh green apple fruit compliments the lime, honey, white flowers and wet stone minerality on the nose, a fairly complex nose.  Full flavored Pinot Grigio with a note of tannins, but has a good deal of ripe fruit through the middle with excellent underbelly of acidity.  Finish 35+ Excellent

Oyikil Malbec Mendoza 2007 (6 bottles)
Estimated Value $180
Argentina is on fire and the Malbec varietal is king in Mendoza with some of the best values in the Bordeaux varietals coming from this South American Country.  Malbec has the big and powerful forward black berry fruit that is similar to Cabernet Sauvignon but does not have the big tannins on the finish making it more approachable in its youth.

Montellori Salamartano 2001 Magnum
Estimated Value $95
This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merot is one of the best of its kind coming from Tuscany today. Bold black currant, plum and black cherry fruit on the nose with highlights of fresh plowed earth, new Leather and fresh mushrooms on the nose.  Big and chewy on the palate with a good amount of plush ripe black berry and plum fruit with layers of ripe tannins, fresh earth and toasty spicy notes through the finish.  Finish 50+  EXCELLENT +

Ken Wright Pinot Noir Guadalupe Vineyard Willamette Valley Magnum 2007 Estimated Value  $135
The vineyard was planted in 1989 and represents the definable change of the Jory soils of the Dundee Hills to the sedimentary soil of the Yamhill-Carlton District. It is spaced 7’ by 5’ and is planted to the Wadenswil clone. The soil, known as Willakenzie, is a well-drained shallow soil over siltstone. It lies at an elevation of 350'. The vineyard consistently produces small berries and clusters that are intensely colored. The wine possesses the character of black fruits, cocoa, leather and earth. Approximately 400 cases are produced. Jim Stonebridge and Kathleen Boeve own the vineyard. It is managed by Joel Myers.

Meeker Handprint Magnum 2004
Estimated Value $100
Another glorious, huge, beautiful Handprint Merlot brought to you only by Meeker. This is a juicy, spicy, macho Merlot. Cherries, cinnamon and cloves in the nose, more fruit on the palate and a finish that keeps sayin’ howdy!

La Spinetta Barbera D'Alba Gallina Magnum 2003
Estimated Value $85
(90 Points) Deep inky violet. The Gallina takes things to another level. It is a rich, hedonistic wine that shows a complex range of toasted oak, super-ripe dark fruit, licorice, menthol, roasted coffee bean, and mineral flavors, along with terrific weight on the palate and excellent length. 90 points/drink now-2010, tasted 05/05 Italy Report # G5
Oct 2005

Penfolds Chardonnay Yattarna 2005 (Magnum)
Estimated Value $200
The 2005 Yattarna Chardonnay was barrel-fermented, went through malolactic fermentation, and was aged on its lees for nine months in 55% new French oak before bottling without filtration. Rounder and richer than Reserve Bin 06A, It, too, will blossom with several more years of bottle age. Drink it through 2017.  (91 Points)  Wine Advocate # 181, Feb 2009

Yalumba Grenache Bush Vines 2007 (Magnum)
Estimated Value $55
Light in color, with a crisp texture and pretty plum and pepper flavors, finishing slightly hot. Drink now. 2,400 cases imported. -HS  (87 Points)  Wine Spectator Issue: Oct 15, 2008

Ferrari Carano Merlot Sonoma (3-Liter)
Estimated Value $175
This wine is composed of 100% Merlot. The cool-climate, valley-floor vineyards produce supple, fruit-forward wine, while the mountain top vineyard fruit lends intensity and structure. Upon entering the winery, the hand-harvested grapes were destemmed and then fermented in tank before pressing. The wine was moved to barrels for malolactic fermentation and aged for 16 months, allowing for the perfect balance of fruit, tannin, and oak.

Quintessa Rutherford Meritage Magnum 2006
Estimated Value $300
Quintessa 2006 opens with sweet and inviting aromas of bright black fruit with red fruit undertones. It announces itself dramatically with a full lush entry, developing into a broad, rich and enrobing wine that coats the mouth with rich black fruit laced with a touch of mocha, licorice, sandalwood and vanilla spice. With tremendous density, concentration and ample fine  tannins, this vintage is full and dramatic early and will age gracefully.

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 1988 (3 Liter)
Estimated Value $100
This classic vintage wine from the Alexander Valley is from the outstanding 1988 vintage and out of large format this wine should be drinking at its peak.  The Alexander Valley is considered to be one of the best areas in Sonoma County for the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal.  This wine will appeal to the refined palate and will show best if served with a meal.

Cambria Pinot Noir Julia's Vineyard 2006 (3 Liter)
Estimated Value $100
The 2006 vintage was excellent for Julia's Vineyard Pinot Noir.  The color is dark purple with little of the brick hues that are often seen in Pinot Noir. The nose is generous, ripe, earthy, spicy and exotic. The palate is round, sensual and balanced by fine acidity and soft tannins.

Ravenswood Zinfandel Sonoma Valley 2003 Magnum
Estimated Value $75
Super gnarly Old Vine Zin and Petite Sirah dating back to the early 1900’s grow in this pristine vineyard originally owned by John J Hooker. Barricia is the Portuguese term for "barrel" and is also the combination of Barbara and Patricia who owned and managed the property for over 30 years. Located on HWY 12 in the banana belt of Sonoma Valley. Typical production is 1,000 cases

Moet & Chandon Imperial Epernay NV Magnum
Estimated Value $100
This is the product that replaced the most popular Champagne in U.S. history "White Star".  This wine is esentially the same wine but is a little sweeter than your typical Brut Champagne.  It displays toasty biscuit notes on the nose almond and ginger spice fresh red apple and pear fruit. A heavy dosage almost brut level but nicely balanced acidity and a lovely creamy mousse like textrue on the tongue.  Finish 35+   Very Good +

Steele Chardonnay California Cuvee 2005 Magnum
Estimated Value $50
Steele the master blender, this wine is a blend of grapes from all over the California.  A candidate for the most popular Chardonnay at Wine Watch, it combines the bright acidity from Santa Barbera, tropical fruit from Carneros and Russian River, a touch of Mendocino minerality and lightly toasted oak spice.  Finish 35+. Very Good +

Bordeaux at its Best

2btls -1985 Haut Brion - Pessac Leognan, Bordeaux, France  (Parker 94)

This has always been one of the more seductive, savory, complex Haut-Brions of the eighties. My notes have always suggested that it is the quintessentially elegant, finesse-styled Haut-Brion. The color remains a deep ruby/purple with slight lightening at the edge. The knock-out nose of intense jammy black fruits, smoke, cedar, herbs, and new oak is followed by a generously concentrated, rich, gorgeously proportioned and layered Haut-Brion with no hard edges. Everything - alcohol, acidity, tannin - is beautifully integrated into the seamless personality of the 1985.
