"If it's red, French, costs too much, and tastes like the water that's left in the vase after the flowers have died and rotted, it's probably Burgundy." --Jay McInerney, "Bacchus & Me"

[FIRSTNAME], this may have been the case with some Burgundy in the past but today the wines of Burgundy have risen to a higher calling and almost all of the major producers are making top level wines today.  This is our third event in a row, so we are going to call October "Burgundy awareness month" here at the Wine Watch.

Since 1991, D.C. Flynt M.W. Selections has imported only the finest examples of fine wine from throughout the world that represent the highest value, and are quality examples of appellation typicity, terroir and the vintners art. Each wine is chosen with precise care and attention to detail.

Join us as we absorb some knowledge from one of the world's leading authorities on the subject of the state of one of the most famous wine regions, one of the world France's most coveted vineyards- Burgundy.

Wine Watch Catering will be preparing a three course menu to accompany the tasting wines. The fee for this tasting is $75 all-inclusive for reservations call 954-523-9463.

Tasting Line-up

De Bruyne Cuvee Absolue NV
List $33            Sale $29.04      Case $337

(92 Points)  Bold and muscular, with concentrated honey, biscuit and beef bouillon notes weaving throughout the dense texture. Long and complex, it ends on a walnut aftertaste. A Champagne for food. Not everyone's tipple, but I like its character and style. Drink now through 2005. 4,000 cases made. -BS  Wine Spectator Issue: Oct 15, 2002

Domaine D'Adair Chablis 2006
List $27            Sale $23.76      Case $275

Gilles et Natalie Fevre. This young couple from the famous Fevre Chablis family have created one of the most impressive small wine production facilities anywhere in France. Not a single stitch of wood is to be found anywhere in the Domaine. Even the beams for the foundation were wrapped to eliminate any chance for TCA to develop in the winery. The fermentation and maturation is all done in temperature controlled jacketed stainless steel tanks in the squeakiest clean winery to be found yet. This is exactly what Chablis should be all about. Right now the wines produced under Domaine A'Dair are only AC Chablis, but the Family has now passed a generous portion of Premiers Crus and Grands Crus vineyard acreage to Gilles and Natalie, so watch this space. These two young wine-makers have the passion to make pure examples of Chablis. This is a very exciting Domaine with a great future.

Moret-Nomine Meursault "Clos de Cromin"         2005
List $60            Sale $52.80      Case $612

David Moret, is focused on white Burgundy production. This is a vigneron who has the 'gift', a deft hand with Chardonnay recognized by all around him. His entry to the Nomine family, with his marriage to Odile, has opened spectacular Burgundy properties to him in Puligny, Meursault and Chassagne. These are some of the best produced white Burgundies I have ever tasted. He is extremely careful, and diligent and the production shows it in every way. There is little doubt that these are the type of white Burgundies that will age and improve for years, every bit as long as their Pinot Noir cousins.

Moret-Nomine Meursault "Clos de Cromin" 2006
List $65.25       Sale $57.42      Case $665

A deep dense nose of honey and broad bread yeast notes display a classic Meursault bouquet with a tight core of ripe apple fruit at the center.  There is ample mid-palate dimension and a concentrated fruit character of ripe apple and pear with clover honey which finishes gently and then lingers without any impression of heat. DC FLYNT MW.

Moret-Nomine Puligny Montrachet 2006
List $71.25       Sale $62.91      Case $727

From the attack this is bright and fresh with hints of caramel and a creamy note on the nose.  Excellent acidity is a burst of fruit in the mid-palate with a long note of cream and nuts and certain minerality on the finish.  DC FLYNT MW.

Sigaut Morey St. Denis 1er Cru "Les Charrieres"            2006
List $70.50       Sale $62.04      Sale $719

This Morey Saint Denis has deep color of red with a purple rim and a vibrant nose of aromatic dark fruit with an undertone of coffee and mocha.  The immediate impression of the mid palate is concentrated fruit which quickly expands to rich jam and preserve notes of rich English black cherries.  The finish is long with serious depth of fruit and seamless acidity.  DC FLYNT MW.

Henri Remoriquet Nuits St. Georges "Les Allots" 2006
List $55.50       Sale $48.84      Sale $566

The nose is very expressive with toffee notes and black fruit consistent with the deep burgundy garnet shades.  There is an extra forceful impact of concentrated fruit on the palate with high tones of black jam and cassis.  The roasted coffee notes and structure comes across with hints of Vosne Romanee and it finishes with a slightly dry tannin that will disappear with more bottle age.  DC FLYNT MW.

Roland Rapet Le Corton "Grand Cru" 2006
List $102          Sale $89.76      Sale $1040

(91 Points) A somewhat more deeply pitched nose of earthy blue berry and dark berry fruit aromas that, interestingly enough, evidence a hint of raw tobacco as well as a touch of animale precede the rich, full and serious flavors that are also dusty, textured and mouth coating on the long and persistent finish. The wine of the vintage chez Rapet.Tasted: Apr 01, 2008            Drink: 2014+ Burghound Issue 30
