When baseball is no longer fun, it's no longer a game.
Joe DiMaggio
That's what I say about drinking wine! When it is no longer fun then it is a job, thank god I don't have to do anything too hard here at Wine Watch and I give thanks every day to the wine gods by starting my tastings as soon as I arrive at the store every morning.
This is a special edition of wine watch TV with two time World Series Champion baseball legend Jeff Conine.
Jeff is known as Mr. Marlin, he was a starter on both Marlin teams that won the World Series and still works for the organization today as a commentator and spokesperson for the organization.
I have to admit as someone that has lived in South Florida my whole life, I am embarrassed to say that I don't know how many home runs Jeff hit in his career or how many RBI's he had and I probably only watched a handful of games that Jeff ever played in. When I first met Jeff Conine, the thing that most impressed me is that he is just a regular guy and of course his interest in wine. Then I found out about Jeff's charity work with the Joe Dimaggio Children’s Hospital, Conine Clubhouse. They specialize in helping provide families with sick children a shelter at the Joe Dimaggio Hospital so they can stay close to their kids in their greatest time of need.
I have helped put together a lot of different charity events through the years but this is the first ever that we have hosted here at the store. So this event really needs to be special and have an appeal to those of you that may not be huge baseball fans- like me.
Tonight we have a fun evening of food and wine with a different twist, instead of just pairing the courses with wine and doing a sit down dinner with KILLER juice. We will have a little fun experimenting with food and wine pairings. So for the mingling period to start out the evening we will have a few stations set up in the store with various food and wine epiphany pairings.
These are wines that make a perfect pairing with the food and then an example of a pairing that is not so good. Wine and Cheese are fun to pair but in addition to the classics we will also have some off the wall pairings and this should be a delicious learning experience as well as a lot of fun.
The evening is limited to 15 people and the price is $1000 per person, all proceeds will be donated to the Conine Clubhouse at the Joe Dimaggio children’s hospital.
Wait we have a special payment option for wine collectors:
Wine Collector Payment Option:
For those of you that are wine collectors and would like to participate in this event by donating your collectible wine for admission, Wine Watch will take $1000 worth of collectible wine as payment for admission to this event and then Wine Watch will write a check on your behalf to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation/Conine Clubhouse.
Wine Watch bases the retail value of collectibles at the current Winesearcher.com Low value for collectibles. This donation is still tax deductible but not at the same value as a cash donation. For more information or to send in some wines for instant evaluation call 954-523-9463.
This should be a night to remember with two time World Series champion Jeff Conine in the house for a "Once in a lifetime" dinner featuring a five course tasting menu prepared by a Wine Watch Catering's Toni Lampasone with wines paired to each course.
We will be busting some KILLER juice out of the cellar and we will also have some signed memorabilia from Jeff and some other Marlins packages that will be raffled off this evening. For reservations or to donate to the charity call 954-523-9463.

A bit about Conine Clubhouse:
When a child is undergoing hospital treatment, having access to some of the comforts of home can go a long way for the family. The Conine Clubhouse, located on the hospital campus, offers just that.
Conine Clubhouse, named in honor of World Series champion Jeff Conine and his family, opened in May 1997 to serve as a "home away from home" for families of children receiving medical care at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. Here, families can stay free of charge (based on availability) in a comfortable and nurturing environment. Since opening, the Conine Clubhouse has housed many families from across the United States and other countries.
Referral and Length of Stay Guidelines
A physician, social worker or nurse must make guest referrals to Conine Clubhouse. We aim to keep our wait list as short as possible, to help give families in need a chance to stay at our beautiful facility.
