And those of you that have been listening to my propaganda know that Champagne is my favorite wine but Nebbiolo is my favorite grape and I take every opportunity to drink as many great vintages and wines as I can.

Five years ago, we hosted a tasting of Italian wines featuring the 1997 vintage when they were 20 years of age.  We found that most of the wines on the table were showing beautifully at that time and it seemed like some of them had a decade or more left in the tank.  Today, these wines have had an additional 5 years of age and it is time now to see how the 1997 vintage is drinking at 25 years of age.

The 1997 vintage was highly acclaimed in both Tuscany and the Piedmont as well as other areas of the Italian peninsula including Verona and Lombardy. The best wines from this epic vintage are just starting to hit their stride and you can be the judge tonight and decide if it is time to drink these wines or if they need to be cellared for another couple of years.
