If you have been paying attention to my propaganda over the years you know that Burgundy is one of my favorite wine regions of the world and when we recently acquired these old wines from one of our cellar acquisitions I immediately set these vintage wines aside for scientific evaluation.
We host a lot of events with older vintage wines and although the 1964 vintage Burgundy tasting was great, almost all the wines showed very well, but they were all probably better 20-30 years ago. The wines from Burgundy on the table tonight are vintage but they are in their peak years of drinking in my opinion for both the reds and the whites.
We have wines from the three greatest villages in Burgundy for the white wines, Puligny Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet and Meursault in the 12- 22 year-old range. Then, for the reds from village level to Grand Cru mostly from the 1990 vintage.
I have included a great selection of whites and reds on this offering for sale for those of you that can't make the tasting.

Meursault
Meursault is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) in the Côte de Beaune subregion of the Burgundy wine region. It lies along the foot of the Côte-d'Or escarpment, around Beaune and with the broad Saône valley plain to its east. Meursault produces mainly white wines from Chardonnay grapes, primarily in a style with a clear oak influence, which have led to descriptions such as "buttery" to be applied to powerful examples of Meursault wines. Within the Meursault AOC there are some Premier Cru vineyards, but no Grand Cru. This has however not stopped the wines of Meursault from competing with the white burgundies from the villages Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, where several Grands Crus are situated. The town of Meursault is home to the international wine event La Paulée de Meursault.

Chassagne Montrachet
Chassagne-Montrachet wine is produced in the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Remigny in Côte de Beaune of Burgundy. The Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) Chassagne-Montrachet may be used for white wine and red with respectively Chardonnay and Pinot noir as the main grape variety. The production consists of around two-thirds of white wine and one-third of red wine, which is produced primarily in the southern part of the commune, in the direction of Santenay. There are three Grand Cru vineyards within Chassagne-Montrachet, with Montrachet the most well-known, and 50 Premier Cru vineyards.

Puligny Montrachet
Puligny-Montrachet wine is produced in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet in Côte de Beaune of Burgundy. The Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) Puligny-Montrachet may be used for white wine and red with respectively Chardonnay and Pinot noir as the main grape variety. However, almost only white Puligny-Montrachet is produced, at around 99.5 per cent of the total production. There are four Grand Cru vineyards within Puligny-Montrachet, with Montrachet the most well-known, and 17 Premier Cru vineyards.

Gevrey Chambertin
Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the wine villages of the Côte de Nuits which lies along the foot of the Côte-d'Or escarpment, to the south of Dijon and with the broad Saône valley plain to its east. It produces red Burgundy wine from vineyards at the village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru level.
The vineyards on the slope of the Côte d'Or form a strip below and east of the woodland on the Jurassic limestone hills. In the plain of the Saône to the east, there are large fields. The commune is also traversed by the A31 road and the railway from Dijon to the south with a large marshalling yard (Gevrey-Triage). There is also a stretch of Roman road from Dijon to the southern end of the Forest of Cîteaux, to the south of the abbey.
Gevrey-Chambertin is the source of 9 out of 33 Burgundy Grand crus AOC wines: Chambertin 12.9 ha, Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze 15.4 ha, Chapelle-Chambertin 5.5 ha, Charmes-Chambertin 30.8 ha, Mazis-Chambertin 9.1 ha, Mazoyères-Chambertin 1.72 ha, Griotte-Chambertin 2.7 ha, Latricières-Chambertin 7.3 ha, Ruchottes-Chambertin 3.3 ha. Gevrey-Chambertin wines have high ageing potential (10 to 20 years, longer for some exceptions).

Echezeaux
Échezeaux (pronounced [e.ʃə.zo]) is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy, with Pinot noir as the main grape variety. Échezeaux is located within the commune of Flagey-Echézeaux,[1] on a strip of land between the territory of the communes Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot and Chambolle-Musigny. Échezeaux borders on the Clos de Vougeot and its wall as well as Grands Échezeaux in the east, on Chambolle-Musigny vineyards in the north, some Vosne-Romanée vineyards in the west and on the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru vineyard Les Suchots in the south. The AOC was created in 1937.

Grands Echezeaux
Grands Échezeaux is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy, with Pinot noir as the main grape variety. Grands Échezeaux is located within the commune of Flagey-Echézeaux,[1] on a strip of land between the territory of the communes Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot and Chambolle-Musigny. Grands Échezeaux borders on Clos de Vougeot and its wall in the east and north, and on Échezeaux in the west and south. The AOC was created in 1936.
