We have the Wine Cave available Friday night this week for a private dining experience! Contact chef Toni@winewatch.com to put your own custom menu together for dinner and we have the best wine list in town with over 4000 different selections going back to 1899. The wines for dinner are all available at the retail price and there is no corkage fee here at the Wine Watch if you want to bring in a special bottle from your cellar…oh you do have to give me a glass!
We will take up to 16 people but will accept as few as 6 for a curated dinner by Chef Toni. We must know in advance what food items you want so you will have to coordinate the menu with Toni ahead of time but she can put together any of your favorites from past Wine Bar menus or whatever you want if she has enough notice. The best thing about this table is the view of the wine, we have the largest selection of vintage wine in South Florida and everything is available at a retail price!! You may want to bring a sweater it is 64 degrees in the wine cave.
The wines of the Northern Rhone are very different from the South as syrah is the star of the show here. The wines of Cote Rotie and Hermitage are rare in that these regions are fairly small and the top wines are made in minute quantities. We get only 3 bottles of August Clape Coronas a year and we are drinking the oldest bottle we have tonight, set aside for four years now, it may not be completely ready, but I can’t resist! We set aside at least one bottle of our 3 bottle allocation a year for future scientific research from producers like August Clape.
The granite hills of Hermitage rise above the Rhone at Tain l'Hermitage where the river bends sharply to the east before resuming a southward flow. This gives the vineyards a direct southern exposure. Vines have been grown here since Roman times, and Pliney the elder wrote favorably about the wines of the region. The locals claim that vines were first planted here by Phocaean Greeks around 500 BC. Although the evidence is not conclusive, Greek coins and amphorae dating back to 500 BC have been found in the area.
The 2017 Jean Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc, 2018 Hermitage Rouge and the 1990 Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle alone are worth the price of admission, but we have 7 other top-level wines from the Northern Rhone on the table tonight going back 50 years to the 1974 vintage!
I have included all the wines from the Northern Rhone that are available in the store on this e-mail. Chef Toni Lampasone will be making a special meal to accompany the tasting wines.
