We have a lot of vintage wines at Wine Watch and when we hit a subject we hit it hard. We have already conducted extensive tastings on the 1986 vintage from Bordeaux and we just conducted another 1982 vintage Bordeaux tasting which included all five of the first growths from the left bank. All of the wines were still drinking beautifully which makes Bordeaux one of the longest lived wines on the planet. So when we received a cellar that included a bottle of 1911 Chateau Rauzan Segla, I immediately gathered a selection of the oldest Bordeaux that we have in the store to host an event to experience this 100+ year old bottle.
The wine bar is still only open for our wine tasting events but we will take one reservation for the wine cave on any Thursday, Friday or Saturday night when we have an event scheduled in the wine bar.
We will take up to 16 people but will accept as few as 6 for a curated dinner by Chef Toni. We must know in advance what food items you want so you will have to coordinate the menu with Toni ahead of time but she can put together any of your favorites from past Wine Bar menus or whatever you want if she has enough notice. The best thing about this table is the view of the wine, we have the largest selection of vintage wine in South Florida and everything is available at a retail price!! You may want to bring a sweater it is 64 degrees in the wine cave.
We love vintage wines and have hosted some incredible tastings featuring wines going back 100+ years of age. I tend to like wines that still have a good amount of fruit left and although you can keep Bordeaux for a long time in some cases 50-100 years, I tend to like them from 20-40 years of age. For my taste that is when great Bordeaux from great vintages really starts to hit its peak years of drinkability.
We just landed a collection of older vintage Bordeaux which included a 1911 vintage Chateau Rauzan Seglau. I have never tasted a wine from this great vintage, so I figured it’s time to do a little experiment to see just how this along with selection of the oldest wines in the Bordeaux section are drinking, including a flight of 1970 and 1985 vintage wines.
Occasionally when we pick up a cellar, we find a bottle that just doesn’t look right and this cellar included two bottles of 1970 Chateau Palmer, one of which looks very suspicious so whenever we acquire a bottle that we feel is fake we include it in an upcoming event. In a few past events the “fugazi” was even selected as WOTN! As I like to say we are doing scientific work with wine here at Wine Watch and the only way to learn about wine is to experience as many bottles as you can and that means comparing bottles that are potentially fake we’re on the task!!
