We love vintage wines and have some incredible tastings featuring wines going back 100+ years of age. I tend to like wines that still have a good amount of fruit left and although you can keep Bordeaux for a long time in some cases 50-100 years I tend to like them from 20-40 years of age. For my taste that is when great Bordeaux from great vintages really starts to hit its peak years of drinkability.
Looking around the store I found that we had a bottle of 1959 vintage Chateau Pichon Baron, the 1959 vintage from Bordeaux was epic and probably my all time favorite in terms of 50+ year old wines. So I figured it’s time to do a little experiment to see just how this vintage is drinking today and of course we have thrown in a few other vintages to see how they compare with some of the oldest Bordeaux that we have in store along with some wines from the 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s and the first decade of the new century. Like I always say we are doing scientific work with wine here and tonight is the night to see which of the last five decades from Bordeaux is drinking at its peak today.
