Tuscany Wine Tasting Featuring Casanova Di Neri And Fattoria Le Pupille with Special Guests Giacomo Neri & Elisabetta Geppetti Thursday, March 5, 2026 7:30 PM
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
Hannibal Lecter - Silence of the Lambs
I’m off to Napa Valley this week for Premier Napa! You can always tell when I’m out of town there are no events on the calendar as the wine bar is not open for scientific research with wine while I’m out of town.
We have a few great Italian wine tastings coming up when I get back from Napa Valley. I will be tired of Napa Valley wines so it's a good time to get back to the greatest values in the world of fine wines- Italy.
So, when our friends from Ethica wines told us that they had not one but two of their top producers in town on Thursday, March 5th I said lets host both of them on the same night!
This is a serious double header and both Casanova di Neri and Fattoria Le Pupille are producing some of the best wines in their prospective categories.
Join us as we welcome the owners of these properties Giacomo Neri & Elisabetta Geppetti to the wine bar for a special night of Tuscan wines. The fee for this tasting which includes dinner and gratuity is $295 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

A bit about Casanova di Neri Winery:
In the rolling hills of Montalcino, Casanova di Neri has carved its name as one of the most influential estates in the world of Brunello. Founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, a grain merchant from Montevarchi, the winery was born from his bold vision: to produce exceptional wines that reflect the character and complexity of Montalcino’s varied terroir. What began as a small project quickly gained momentum as Giovanni recognized the potential of Sangiovese when handled with intention and site-specific care.
When Giacomo Neri took the reins in 1991, he pushed the winery into a new era of precision and quality. Under his guidance, Casanova di Neri grew into a reference point for collectors, critics, and Brunello lovers worldwide. Giacomo introduced cutting-edge winemaking techniques and a focus on micro-vinification, treating each vineyard block as a unique expression.
Today, the estate includes over 60 hectares of vines, including legendary sites like Cerretalto—a walled vineyard on a bend in the Asso river with rocky, mineral-rich soils—and Tenuta Nuova, a newer planting that’s already earned icon status.
The wines? Pure Sangiovese, meticulously crafted. Powerful yet elegant. Age-worthy but generous. Casanova di Neri represents the bold future of Brunello—rooted in tradition, driven by vision.

Price: $28.50 Your Price: $25.08
(92 Points) Cherry and blackberry fruit define this linear, fluid red. There’s also a line of sinewy tannins that leaves its mark on the earthy, salty finish, which shows fine length. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Wine Spectator
2023 Casanova Di Neri Rosso Di Montalcino Giovanni Neri
Price: $88.50 Your Price: $77.88
Giovanni Neri is the Rosso di Montalcino dedicated to the founder in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the estate. A unique wine that respects the philosophy and the style of Casanova di Neri, that are still the same as fifty years ago. Giovanni Neri is the expression of a Sangiovese that mainly comes from a vineyard that has a wonderful exposition, exceptional soil and vines forty five years old.
Rosso di Montalcino Giovanni Neri 2023 has a splendid clear and brilliant ruby color. Expressive and fragrant, the nose reveals hints of small red fruits, particularly wild strawberries and cherries preserved in alcohol. On the palate, it expresses the best characteristics of the 2023 vintage: finesse, elegance, tension, and silkiness. The finish is generous, ample, and balanced.
2021 Casanova Di Neri Brunello Di Montalcino White Label
Price: $97.50 Your Price: $85.80
(95 Points) The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is an understated beauty, mixing dusty rose and lavender with shavings of blood orange and black cherries. It is surprisingly juicy yet elegant and refined, as ripe wild berry fruits slowly drench the palate in primary concentration. Structured and dramatically long, the 2021 finishes spicy and intense with nuances of citrus, clove and licorice. The complexity here is off the charts and the energy is incredible. 2020 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino White Label
Price: $90.75 Your Price: $79.86
(94 Points) Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Casanova di Neri 2020 Brunello di Montalcino (with the white label) represents a departure from the norm. Because the Cerretalto was not produced, fruit from that vineyard with its reddish mineral-rich soils was directed here instead. For that reason, this wine is especially spicy, lifted and intense. Dark cherry fruit is followed by rusty nail, black pepper and milled spice. The wine is fermented in steel tanks, sees 20 days of skin maceration and ages in botte and tonneaux for over three years. The oak is very well integrated. This is a wine of character (with 98,000 bottles made)." 11/24
2021 Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova Brunello di Montalcino
Price: $187.50 Your Price: $165.00
Tenuta Nuova is a pioneering and visionary vineyard project emboding the belief and passion of Casanova di Neri. Tenuta Nuova means new property; Tenuta Nuova is a place where nobody planted Sangiovese before; Tenuta Nuova is the will of Casanova di Neri to produce a powerful yet drinkable Brunello with a high ageing potential. The project began with the study of varied local microclimates and their optimal exposures. Through a cautious and passionate research Casanova di Neri has used the most sophisticated scientific investigations to determine the clones, rootstocks, cultivation practices, plant density per hectare and every possible particular to obtain excellent Sangiovese grapes.
Deep dark red with notes of blackberries, dark chocolate, incense, and rosemary. The 2021 vintage enhances the Mediterranean character of Tenuta Nuova: full body, incredibly ripe tannins, and lively tension give this wine a rare completeness. The rich and very long finish is chiseled by a vibrant acidity that perfectly frames the greatness of the 2021 vintage.
2021 winter was marked by mild temperatures and average rainfall. The germination took place between the last week of March and the first of April. Spring continued with a return of cold which slowed the development of vegetation. May and June were hot and dry and they allowed the plants to catch up. The ripening continued regularly and the harvest began in the second week of September.
2020 Casanova Di Neri Brunello Di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova
Price: $181.50 Your Price: $159.72
(96 Points) The Casanova di Neri 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova stands apart in the context of this portfolio. I get a distinctly creamy note that cedes to almond paste, sweet cherry and chalky stone. The wine is open-knit and generous with velvety tannins and no bitterness on the finish. It has the bulk and the fresh fruit concentration for long cellar aging. It is texturally rich, ending with hints of cedar spice and something that reminds me of freshly broken tree branches. Yields were down by about 15% in this vintage. The wine matures in 500-liter barrels for 30 months, and 63,000 bottles were created. (ML) Wine Advocate, Review Date: 11/2024
2019 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova
Price: $153.50 Your Price: $135.08 Quantity in Stock: 34
(97 points) “In my mind, this is the wine that best represents the Casanova di Neri house style. With 30 months of aging in tonneaux, it shows enormous richness and texture, and the stellar fruit quality appears with more primary elegance compared to the more expensive Cerretalto that is released with an extra year of aging. That dynamic is especially pronounced in a comparison of the 2019 and 2018 vintages. The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova has a dark vein of toasted spice, black fruit, ink, blackberry compote, licorice and star anise. Dark as night, it is exceptionally well crafted with a robust delivery of concentrated fruit and solid tannic structure. You can count on excellent cellar potential, or at a minimum, serve it with a classic steak. Production is exactly 69,696 bottles. Drink Date: 2026 - 2050” Robert Parker's Wine Advocate – Monica Larner Review date: December 2023

(96 Points) Delivers a wonderful concentration of crushed blackberry, raisin, treacle tart and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, with big, velvety tannins and loads of ripe fruit. A Porty, powerful wine. Superb. Why wait? (JS, Web—2010) Wine Spectator, Review Date: N/A
2021 Casanova di Neri Giovanni Neri Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Price: $358.50 Your Price: $315.48
Brunello Giovanni Neri expresses our tradition and winemaking philosophy, and embraces the values of sustainability, and the territory’s uniqueness. After fifty years from the purchase of the first vineyard, Giacomo, Giovanni and Gianlorenzo named this wine as Casanova di Neri’s founder. A remarkable wine, a pure Sangiovese’s expression born out of an ancient, untamed vineyard with half-century old vines spread over a great winegrowing terroir. While bringing together tradition and innovation is anything but an easy task, the Giovanni Neri manages that with an unmistakable elegance.
Deep, intense red, the nose releases hints of small dark berries followed by blood orange, mint, and a floral touch. The palate is intense and balanced, refined and elegant. The greatness of the 2021 vintage is evident in the almost perfect maturity of the tannins and the present but completely integrated acidity, expressing itself with a vibrant and chiseled finish.
2021 winter was marked by mild temperatures and average rainfall. The germination took place between the last week of March and the first of April. Spring continued with a return of cold which slowed the development of vegetation. May and June were hot and dry and they allowed the plants to catch up. 2020 Casanova di Neri Giovanni Neri Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Price: $358.50 Your Price: $315.48
A lively and bright young red colour. The bouquet reveals hints of small red berries with a pronounced aroma of blood orange. A Brunello with great finesse and balance. The palate is firm and deep, elegant and vivid. It features well-extracted tannins perfectly integrated with a lively acidity which preludes to an amazing future. A fresh and persistent finish, topped off by an invigorating sapidity.
Winter 2020 has been characterized by mild temperatures and below average rainfalls. The return of cold temperatures at the end of March has slowed down the vegetative cycle, still the budding has taken place at the same time as the previous vintages. Spring has followed normally, with a mild climate. Flowering and fruit setting have occurred under optimal conditions. In the month of June there have been optimal rainfalls, while the summer has been hot and sunny, without excessive temperatures. All these conditions have contributed to a slow and consistent ripening of the grapes.
2019 Casanova Di Neri Brunello Di Montalcino Cerretalto
Price: $528.00 Your Price: $464.64
(99 Points) At the far eastern limits of the zone, Cerretalto is Casanova di Neri’s coolest site, owing to marked diurnal temperature differences. Fermented in oak and aged in tonneaux, of which 20% is new, this cuvée sees long ageing in bottle and is always released a year after its stablemates in the vintages it is made. Simply breathtaking, the 2019 is a thoroughbred. Intense yet at the same time reticent, the nose simmers with pulverised rocks, graphite, smoke and wild black berries. Sinewy and chiselled in physique, the palate is full of vim and vigour. Dark fruit tones are offset by tangy pomegranate and zesty acidity, and commanding tannins are firm but not hard-edged; they simply need time. Hints of roasted coffee bean and oregano persist. Decanter
2021 Casanova Di Neri Pietradonice Cabernet Sauvignon Tuscany
Price: $105.00 Your Price: $92.40
With Pietradonice, Casanova di Neri makes a great international variety its own. Cabernet Sauvignon is well known for its ability to reflect, interpret and be forged by a territory. Casanova di Neri’s expertise in the vineyard and the cellar prove, once again, how a unique terroir can craft unique wines. A wine of decisive character and striking personality is the child of a special microclimate and a soil found nowhere else, one that contains the fragments of onyx that lend their name both to the vineyard and the wine itself. This is a magnificent red of immense depth, with huge aromas, fragrance and flavours. Its tannins are supremely elegant, conveying a sweet aftertaste that lingers in the mouth.
As usual Pietradonice 2021 shows a bright and intense ruby red colour. The nose reveals notes of young and black fruits such as blue raspberry, cherry and red orange. On the palate it displays the greatness of 2021 vintage: lively tannins, a remarkable aromatic richness and a perfect balanced acidity. The finish is enveloping and complex.

A bit about Fattoria Le Pupille:
In 1985, a 20-year-old Elisabetta Geppetti didn’t just inherit a Tuscan estate — she rewrote the playbook. With the heart of a rebel and the palate of a visionary, she turned Fattoria Le Pupille into a global ambassador for Morellino di Scansano and crafted the Super Tuscan legend known as Saffredi. Nestled in Maremma, between rolling hills and the shimmer of the Tyrrhenian Sea, this estate boasts 85 organically farmed hectares that dance between altitude and sea breeze. The diurnal temperature shifts here work their magic, adding freshness and finesse to the wines.
Elisabetta’s daughter Clara now brings a new-gen edge to the family affair, while son Ettore crafts the wines with both intuition and technical precision. From Sangiovese to Syrah, from barrique to amphora, Pupille’s range sings of terroir, tension, and timeless elegance. Case in point? The juicy, spicy 100% Syrah “Le Pupille” — a two-generations-deep collaboration between mother and daughter.
2024 Fattoria Le Pupille Morellino di Scansano DOCG Italy
Price: $21.75 Your Price: $19.14
(91 Points) The nose is a mix of crunchy red fruit and flowers, as cherries mingle with peonies, plus a touch of orange peel for texture and density. Strawberries and raspberries join more cherries on the palate, with earth and bitter citrus underneath. Fresh and vibrant. — Danielle Callegari Wine Enthusiast
2024 Fattoria Le Pupille 'Poggio Argentato' Maremma Toscana, Tuscany
Price: $27.50 Your Price: $24.20
Bright straw yellow. Notes of freshly cut grass, elderflower, mango, green apple and white nectarine. The sip is fresh and juicy. Long and enjoyable persistence of citrusfruit scents on a mineral background.
2022 Fattoria Le Pupille 'Poggio Valente' Rosso Toscana IGT, Tuscany, Italy
Price: $43.50 Your Price: $38.28
(95+ Points) "Here is another knock-out bottle in this group of new releases from Fattoria le Pupille. The 2022 Poggio Valente is punchy and bright with terrific clarity of fruit. Winemaking has shifted over the years to prioritize larger oak botte. This change has allowed for more varietal expression with blue flower, heritage rose, tart cherry, rye bread and crushed stone. The wine's flavor signature is wholly Mediterranean with hints of rosemary and lavender. The effect is especially luminous and lifted in 2022. This is an elegant wine with a unique voice....Elisabetta Geppetti of Fattoria le Pupille has knocked it out of the ballpark with this exciting group of new releases. These are some of the nicest interpretations of the 2022 vintage from the Tuscan Coast..." 02/25 Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
2023 Fattoria Le Pupille Saffredi IGT Toscana Maremma
Price: $132.00 Your Price: $116.16
(98 Points) A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, the Fattoria Le Pupille 2023 Saffredi represents a classic expression from a fresh vintage that ultimately performed far better than expected despite mid-season mildew pressure. The estate continues to refine its use of wood to emphasize brightness and fruit purity, a shift that is especially evident here. The wine shows notes of dark cherry, ripe blackberry, spice and hints of creamy chocolate. While the 2022 vintage emphasized harder tannins, this vintage is defined by generosity and luscious fruit. The Cabernet Sauvignon in particular appears crunchy, youthful and fresh, giving the wine energy and forward momentum. Wine Advocate

2022 Fattoria Le Pupille Saffredi IGT Toscana Maremma
Price: $127.50 Your Price: $112.20
(98 Points) Menthol-infused dark berry aromas open the door to an intense and juicy mouthful of precisely wrought red and black berries and cherries. Wonderful lip-smacking sapidity and finely integrated tannins complete the package. The 2022 Saffredi is the result of the estate's hard work and it has paid dividends. Elisabetta Geppetti's son, Ettore – in just his third vintage overseeing the winemaking without the experienced hand of ex-consultant Luca d'Attoma – has beautifully interpreted the vintage. He tells me that, unusually, it took the team three harvests at different times to obtain the freshness evident in the wine. It's a stunner. Wow! (JB) Decanter, Review Date: 03/2025
2018 Fattoria Le Pupille Le Pupille Syrah Toscana IGT Tuscany
Price: $174.75 Your Price: $153.78
(93 Points) "Bright, bursting with blackberry, black currant, ink and black pepper aromas and flavors, this red is also supple and dense. Vibrant and balanced, with a lingering aftertaste of dark fruit and spice. Syrah. Drink now through 2028." Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator
