We will take up to 16 people but will accept as few as 6 for a curated dinner by Chef Toni. We must know in advance what food items you want so you will have to coordinate the menu with Toni ahead of time but she can put together any of your favorites from past Wine Bar menus or whatever you want if she has enough notice. The best thing about this table is the view of the wine, we have the largest selection of vintage wine in South Florida and everything is available at a retail price!! You may want to bring a sweater it is 64 degrees in the wine cave.
When we hit a subject, we like to hit it hard and since we are conducting a study of wines from the Southern Rhone on Friday, February 2nd, I figured it would be good to host a tasting featuring the wines of the Northern Rhone ASAP- meaning Saturday, February 3rd.
The wines of the Northern Rhone are very different from the South as Syrah is the star of the show here. The wines of Cote Rotie and Hermitage are rare in that the regions are fairly small and the top wines are made in minute quantities like Guigal's La La wines made from three of the top vineyard sites of the Cote Rotie region.
The granite hills of Hermitage rise above the Rhone at Tain l'Hermitage where the river bends sharply to the east before resuming a southward flow. This gives the vineyards a direct southern exposure. Vines have been grown here since Roman times, and Pliney the elder wrote favorably about the wines of the region. The locals claim that vines were first planted here by Phocaean Greeks around 500 BC. Although the evidence is not conclusive, Greek coins and amphorae dating back to 500 BC have been found in the area.
The 1998 Guigal Cote Rotie La Landonne (100 Points), 1990 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle and the 1989 Chapoutier Hermitage La Pavillon alone are worth the price of admission alone, but we have 8 other top-level wines from the Northern Rhone on the table tonight.
