When I put my nose in a glass, it's like tunnel vision. I move into another world, where everything around me is just gone, and every bit of mental energy is focused on that wine.  Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Robert Parker Jr. is the most influential wine writer of our lifetime and he has made a lot of people famous in placed like Bordeaux and Napa Valley.  I always say you can’t drink points but your going to pay a lot for the last two on the 100 Point scale.  The wines that his publication the Wine Advocate rates 99 and 100 points inevitably become some of the most expensive on earth especially if they come from Napa Valley.

I get really excited today when I can sell wines from Napa that taste like they are $200 or more and they cost $75 or less as it happens less and less today.  The best wines from Napa are selling for $500+ per bottle and some of them have less than a decade of history.

We just scored a deal on one of the true hidden gems of Napa Valley that is still family owned since 1991 and has been made with the help of the great Philippe Melka since day one!  Check out all the wines of Seavey Winery going back to the 2001 vintage on this offering at the cheapest prices in the country!

Seavey – One of the Hidden Gems of Napa Valley

Seavey Chardonnay 2017 | Wine.com

2017 SEAVEY CHARDONNAY NAPA

Price: $59.00     Your Price: $39.00

Seavey’s 2017 Chardonnay offers a full and lush nose of nectarine, grapefruit and lemongrass. On the palate, the wine is crisp, bright and refreshing, revealing an exotic medley of lemon tart, stone fruit, and wet river stones with a hint of cardamom and fresh almond. As always, you will find Seavey’s signature Chardonnay style of light oak, bright acidity, and lively minerality.

2019 SEAVEY CHARDONNAY NAPA

Price: $69.00     Your Price: $45.00

(94 Points)  "The 2019 Chardonnay Seavey Vineyard is a fitting conclusion to this tasting. Bright and finely cut, the 2019 possesses terrific energy and plenty of hillside verve. The lemon peel, orchard fruit and floral notes are nicely lifted, while supporting veins of saline minerality give the wine shape. This airy, restrained Chardonnay is a knock-out. Drink it over the next handful of years.”  Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Dec. 2020)

2017 Merlot - Seavey Vineyard

2017 SEAVEY MERLOT NAPA

Price: $95.00     Your Price: $65.00          Quantity in Stock: 15

“Seavey’s 2017 Merlot is loaded with all of the savory character that makes this wine so distinctive. Cedar, tobacco, mint, licorice, dried flowers and dried red cherry fruit are some of the many notes that develop in this beguiling, mid-weight Merlot from Seavey. All the elements just fall into place. This is such a delicious and alluring wine.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous – 93 points

2018 SEAVEY MERLOT NAPA

Price: $95.00     Your Price: $55.75

(93 Points) Seavey's 2018 Merlot is bright, fresh and beautifully perfumed. Sweet crushed red berry fruit, spice and floral notes give the Merlot its effusive personality. Medium in body and impeccably refined, the 2018 Merlot is fabulous. The Seavey Merlot remains one of the most distinctive, under the radar wines in Napa Valley.  Vinous

Seavey Caravina Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5 Liter Magnum) 2015 | Wine.com

2015 SEAVEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON CARAVINA NAPA MAGNUM

Price: $150.00   Your Price: $112.20

2015 SEAVEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON CARAVINA NAPA

Price: $75.00     Your Price: $66.00          Quantity in Stock: 5

(92+ points) “The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Caravina packs a serious punch. Once again a real overachiever, the Caravina offers notable density and pure power in its dark plum, chocolate, lavender and leather flavors. The 2015 is going to need at least a few years to shed some of its baby fat, after which it should drink beautifully for a number of years. This is a very serious second wine from Seavey. At many Napa Valley properties, this would be the top wine.” Antonio Galloni (Mar. 2018)

2016 SEAVEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON CARAVINA NAPA

Price: $95.00     Your Price: $68.64

(93 points) “The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Caravina is one of the most distinctive Napa Valley wines in its price range, or any price range, for that matter. Pliant, deep and expressive, with superb fruit density, the Caravina punches well above its weight. Mineral and savory notes add shades of nuance to a core of resonant dark red cherry fruit. All the elements are impeccably balanced.” Antonio Galloni (Dec. 2018)

2014 SEAVEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON, NAPA MAGNUM

Price: $395.00   Your Price: $299.00

(96+ points) “A total knock out, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. Even so, my impression is that the 2014 still has room to grow. Powerful and explosive, the 2014 exudes pedigree in its layered personality and overall structure. Scorched earth, gravel, menthol, licorice and dark fruits give the wine its distinctive personality. Readers will have to be patient, but the 2014 is shaping up to be magnificent.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous

A bit about Seavey Winery:

Seavey Vineyard

In the 1870s – when Conn Valley Road was little more than a wagon trail – the land which we now farm was planted with grapes to make a “Claret of high repute.” This wine was judged by the St. Helena Star to be “as fine as one might find anywhere.” Commonly known as the Franco-Swiss Farming Company, this was the pioneering vineyard and winemaking operation of Conn Valley. After roughly thirty years of producing great wines, the company dissolved due to the impact of a phylloxera infestation and Prohibition. For more than a half century, cattle roamed the land and grain was farmed but no more grapes were cultivated until Bill and Mary Seavey acquired the land in 1979.

Bill and Mary set out to revive the original vineyard, planting the south-facing hillsides of Conn Valley near Lake Hennessey. By 1990, we had remodeled an 1881 stone dairy barn into a small winery and began producing small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Small blocks of Merlot and Petit Verdot were also added along with a second winery building which includes an underground wine cave.

Production from the estate’s 40 planted acres is approximately 3,000 cases annually. This small-scale production allows us to maintain consistently high standards in both the vineyard and the winery. We’ve never bought a grape and we farm our land with our in-house crew. Our steep, rocky hillsides produce small, thick-skinned berries with outstanding tannins which must be handled very gently. As a result, our winemaking approach is gentle and patient. Stewarded by Jim Duane, our winemaker, and also Philippe Melka, our consulting winemaker, our goal is to create masterful, soulful wines that exude a sense of place and age gracefully.

All Seavey wines are wonderfully flavorful and concentrated. Our flagship Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted for classic Bordeaux-style richness, finesse and balance for cellar aging. Our Caravina Cabernet is meant for earlier drinking and offers supple tannins and youthful intense flavors. We also produce small lots of Merlot and Chardonnay. We look forward to introducing you to our rare and extensive wine library dating back to 1990 and to our wine clubs that provide access to these wines. Bill and Mary’s commitment to creating this library for future enjoyment was unshakeable, and reflected their conviction that our wines would only improve with time.  Like their consulting winemaker that has been with them since day one Philippe Melka.

A native of Bordeaux, Philippe Melka grew up intrigued by the intricacies of the land around him. Arriving in Napa Valley to study wine in 1991, the region’s soil proved to be a revelation for him. For the past 15 years, Melka has served as a winemaking consultant for some of Napa’s most highly regarded properties, including Vineyard 29, Hundred Acre, Dana Estates, Gemstone Vineyard and Lail Vineyards. Melka is recognized as one of the wine industry’s leading winemakers: Robert Parker named him one of the world’s nine most important winemakers, while Food & Wine declared him “winemaker of the year” in 2005.

“Seavey is one of the great, unheralded, under-the-radar terroirs in all of Napa Valley…Bill and Mary were visionaries with regard to what could be achieved on these dry-farmed hillside vineyards tucked away in Conn Valley, east of the Meadowood Resort.”— Robert Parker, Jr.

Jim Duane has led Seavey’s winemaking since 2011 after stints at Robert Mondavi Winery and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars where he became inspired to focus on Bordeaux varietals. Jim combines rich knowledge of winemaking from around the world with deep technical understanding of vineyards and wine, receiving his Master’s Degree in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis. About Seavey, Jim says: “I delight in the rugged terraces and steep vineyards here, which provide constant opportunities to refine our cultivation methods, And in our small team’s relentless pursuit of crafting unmistakable, world-class wines.” Jim is also passionate about wine education and produces an informative and entertaining Inside Winemaking Podcast.
