Join us here tomorrow night, Thursday, October 15th for a special pop-up vintage wine tasting for Wine Club members ONLY! We have a great selection of wines that have been on the shelf for a few years so tonight we are going to do some scientific work with 10+ year old wines.
We will not be serving any food for this event, but wine club members can come and taste the wines for FREE and we will have this week’s menu available to compliment the wine selections.

2013 Scholium Project Farina Vineyards Dulcissima Camilla Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma Mountain

This was another fantastic year for Farina, the rocky, east-facing Sauvignon Blanc vineyard high up on Sonoma Mountain. The vineyard produced a third more fruit than it normally does-- and we were offered more rows by Joe Votek, who farms it. This allowed us to make the most LSB that we have ever made-- and to make Camilla for the first time since 2007. For reasons that I can barely divine, this wine often takes a year to ferment; sometimes more. We bottled the dry barrels of the wine as LSB in March, and have let the remaining barrels finish fermentation gently. They are now gradually reaching completion; the additional months in barrel and on the lees changes the character of the wine substantially: this wine is darker and less fresh than LSB, more broad, less etched. I have studied the 2007 wines carefully; the bottles of Camilla age better than the fresher LSB; in some ways, they take longer to show themselves.

Our Story: Husband and wife team Krys and Randy Wulff have been growing premium grapes in Napa Valley for over 15 years, selling to many well-known wineries such as Lewis, Robert Mondavi and The Prisoner. The Wulffs hand select areas in their estate vineyards from which they make their own signature wines under the LOBO label, the Spanish word for “wolf.”
Vineyard: This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir, estate grown in the Oak Knoll appellation of the Napa Valley. It is a blend of the classic Mariafeld and Martini clones. The vineyard soil is gravelly loam. Spacing, pruning and canopy management are LOBO’s key to creating balance and ideal stress to the vines which produce a more flavorful, concentrated and complex wine.
Winemaker Notes: Victoria Coleman, a rising star who makes all of LOBO’s red wines, has returned to Napa after a stint at Chateau Mouton Rothschild. The estate-grown fruit is all hand-harvested, cold soaked on skins and then aged for 11 months in 35% new French Oak primarily from Dargaud & Jaegle, Marsannay and Francois Freres. T

(91 POINTS) -Antonio Galloni Coming from the Occidental Ridge in the Sonoma Coast AVA, this wine showcases the dark notes, gorgeous fruit, and floral notes telling of its ridge top coastal location which is bathed in plentiful sunlight. The nose exhibits layers of black cherry, blackberry, cedar and forest floor, with fresh flowering aromatic herbs, cardamom, and a note of mandarin oil. This is a sizable wine, broadening on the palate with depth and richness. However, its freshness and lovely floral notes keep it light on its feet. This is a beautiful, complex wine with great evolution and length, easily enjoyable now, or will also reward those who prefer a wine with a few years under its belt. Winery Information: The Trentadue family arrived in Sonoma County long before the region gained a reputation as the Wine Country. Life-long, hands-on agriculturists, Evelyn and Leo Trentadue contributed significantly to the advancement of their region over the years. In 1959, the Trentadues decided to flee the developers encroaching on their apricot and cherry orchards in Sunnyvale, the area known today around the world as Silicon Valley. To preserve their way of life, these hard-working Italian ranchers purchased 208 acres of land in Sonoma County's then remote Alexander Valley.

Only 987 cases of this blend of 76% Merlot and 24% Malbec were produced by winemaker Bob Bertheau from the famous Cold Creek Vineyard. This is the biggest of the wines from this tasting and for one of the oldest wines here it has the most structure and tannins on the tongue with an array of blackberry, black plum and black cherry fruit with highlights of espresso, bitter coco and dark earth with more nuance coming out as the wine opens up. The Syrah/Viognier co-ferment yielded a nose of raspberry jam, black pepper, smoked duck, citrus, apricots and white flowers. Only 1588 bottles produced of this blend of 50% Malbec, 40% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Franc. The artist series label features artwork from Yuroz and a mystery (100 Point) winemaker consulting for owner Frankie Baroudi. Dark black and black plum fruit here on the nose with notes of black olive tapenade, dried herbs and violet floral notes, nice evolution and complexity here on the nose. A very balanced wine on the tongue, big and chewy with lots of ripe plum and cherry fruit with sweet herbs and an array of that spice and nuance from the nose coming through on the finish, lovely freshness and balance, this wine is drinking beautifully but will still last for a decade or more in your cellar.
