"It wasn't always like this. Before Paris, people didn't drink our wine. I mean, my friends did. But you could hardly consider their palates discerning..."
Bo Barrett - Bottle Shock
If your cellar is not completely full you could be cutting your life expectancy dangerously short, so it’s time to stock up!
Fisher Vineyards is one of Napa Valley’s landmark wineries, this winery started in 1973 and at that time there were only approximately 30 wineries in Napa Valley. Fisher Vineyards was one of the new kids on the block and they had some of the best wine makers and viticulture hands in the business to get things started.
The timeline is below and the names that are part of the story are the best in the business; however, Fisher Vineyards is still not a well-known name for many wine lovers. Maybe it is because there are over 400 wineries in Napa Valley today and many of the older established wineries are lost in the shuffle but Fisher Vineyards is making some of the best wines in California and the tale of the tape is not only the scores from the critics but the people who have been involved in making the wines over the last 50 years including; Philip Togni, Paul Hobbs, Mia Klein, David Abreau and Aaron Pott to name a few, but the real story here is the Fisher family. They have maintained the integrity of the wines and the fact that they are still a relatively small family-owned winery that has been making wine for 50+ years makes them unique. Today, Whitney Fisher is at the helm making some of the best wines that California has to offer.
As I like to say, “it is not what you know, but who” and the national director of sales for Fisher Vineyards Lizz Cintron has been one of Wine Watch’s best friends for over 25 years. So, when Lizz offered me an array of older vintage wines from the library of Fisher at the same price as the new releases, I immediately said send me a case of everything!! I love these wines and now can host an event with 20+ years of wines from one of California’s top wineries.
Join us as we welcome our good friend Lizz Cintron back to South Florida to showcase an incredible line-up of wines going back to 2003 vintage including every wine that this landmark winery produces. The fee for this tasting which includes dinner is 250+ tax, for reservations e-mail andy@winewatch.com or call 954-523-9463. Please let us know when you make your reservations if you have any food allergies or aversions and chefs Toni and Dani will be happy to accommodate you.

2023 Fisher Unity Rose Napa
Price: $37.25 our Price: $32.78
The surprise of the night for many of the tasters was the Rose, which I did not taste earlier in the day when Juelle stopped by the store to taste me on these wines. When most people see a pink wine in this country they still think of sweet white zinfandel so many don't even bother to try it but if you know the winery you know that Fisher would not put out s light and sweet pink wine. This wine had a nice red cherry fruit with pretty floral notes and a bone dry finish, a very refreshing rose and perfect for South Florida.

Planted in 1999, our Mountain Estate Vineyard, Chardonnay, is rooted in steep, rocky soils at 1,300 feet elevation, and planted with the 45 degree fall line on our only northeast-facing slope. Owing to this particular aspect, these vines receive cooler morning light and minimal exposure to any hot afternoon sun, which has proven ideal for the gradual ripening and maximum maturation of Chardonnay grapes.
Pale straw in color, the 2022 Mountain Estate Chardonnay is both fresh and pure. Intense aromas of star jasmine, lemon oil and wet stone leap from the glass. The palate expands on these aromas emphasizing flavors of lemon pot de crème accented by crisp green apple. Lively interactive play between citrus, ripe fig and quartz minerality. This wine continues to develop and change in the glass signifying its ability to age with grace and character. Whitney Fisher Winegrower

(93 Points) Black cherries, plums, spices, menthol and licorice are some of the many nuances that inform the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Coach Insignia. A dark, brooding wine, the 2010 is endowed with considerable gravitas and pure depth. The 2010 should be gorgeous starting in another year or two, once the tannins soften a touch. Today, it is the wine's serious depth and pure vibrancy that stand out most. The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Antonio Galloni, Vinous

First planted in 1973, Wedding Vineyard graces a south facing slope in front of our original Mountain Estate winery, running the length of our secluded estate. Nine acres were replanted in 2002 under the careful guidance of David Abreu: seven blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon (clone 337 and See clone, among others), one block of Petit Verdot (clone 400) and one block of Cabernet Franc (clone 327). The final remaining block was replanted in 2010 (Wiemer clone).
(95 Points) The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Wedding Vineyard is a wine of gravitas and substance. Gravel, incense, dark spice, tobacco and leather add sepia tones to a core of dark blue/purplish fruit. Mysterious and changing in the glass, the 2019 is a Cabernet that needs time to reveal all of its layers. But they are there. All the 2019 needs is a bit of cellaring. Antonio Galloni Vinous

Bright floral notes develop with time in the glass, adding perfume, lift and sensuality to a core of dark cherry, plum, rose petal, lavender and spice. The Wedding Cabernet is often co-fermented with some Petit Verdot, an approach that seems to work especially well here.

(94 Points) The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Wedding Vineyard is striking in its beauty. A deep, implosive wine, the 2010 wraps around the palate with blue and black fruit, menthol, tobacco, licorice and violets. A surprisingly soft and seamless wine for the year and this Sonoma site, the 2010 is endowed with superb balance, depth and integrity of fruit. This is another beautiful wine loaded with character and personality. (AG) Wine Advocate, Review Date: 04/2013

Impressively complex and densely packed, offering sweet dark berry and bitter cherry flavors and exotic notes of candied flowers and peppery spices. For all this wine's density it comes off as graceful and precise, finishing with lingering floral and dark fruit notes. Give it at least a decade in the cellar. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (218 cases Produced)
Nestled at the foot of the Palisades in Northern Napa Valley, the 10 acre Lamb Vineyard has been a source of great pride for our family over the past four decades. Named for Juelle's family, the vineyard was planted to Cabernet in 1976 and consistently yields small quantities of fruit that produce wine with a rare combination of rich concentrated flavors, velvet texture and elegance.
(97 Points) The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Lamb Vineyard is a super-classic Calistoga Cabernet built on power and depth. Inky fruit, gravel, smoke, crushed rocks, licorice, spice and lavender infuse the 2018 with tremendous resonance and drive, right from the very first taste. The 2018 marries fruit intensity with richness in grand style. The Lamb is a bit darker and more structured than the Coach Insignia. Don't miss it. Vinous, Antonio Galloni

(95 Points) Plums, menthol, violets, smoke, tar, and melted asphalt all seem to jump from the glass. Vibrant and beautifully articulated, the 2010 is endowed with superb pedigree and class. Today the tannins are a bit firm, but that shouldn't be an issue in another few years. The 100% new oak barrels are totally integrated. Savory herbs and black olives are some of the notes that add complexity in this expressive, polished Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030. Vinous

Glass-staining ruby. Explosive aromas of candied black and blue fruits, vanilla, cola and lavender. Inky ruby. Brooding aromas of blackcurrant and kirsch, with complicating notes of incense and fruitcake gaining strength in the glass. Expansive dark berry liqueur and bitter cherry flavors become smoky and meaty with air, gaining depth and structure too. The finish is surprisingly fresh and focused, with a strong cracked pepper note that lingers tenaciously. Really benefits from aeration, suggesting that this youngster should be stashed away for a while.

Bordeaux lovers rejoice! Powerful aromas of blueberry, powdered cocoa, and black currant with accents of allspice and cinnamon. On first sip this wine displays its heritage with an intense structure formed by firm dusty tannin and outlined by the Lamb Vineyard trademark acidity. Complex flavors of ripe plum, pommegrenate, and blackberry complemented by elements of graphite minerality culminate with tongue-dusting tannins. The long finish features the sweet fruit flavor of fresh red cherry eaten right off the tree. Amidst the recent California vintages that have featured ripe ready wines, the 2003 Lamb Vineyard Cabernet is a wine that holds within it the secret to aging with grace, power, and finesse.

80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Caberent Franc, 7% Petit Verdot
Following more than four decades planting vineyards and adapting farming practices to the mountain climate and terrain around the winery, we launched our Mountain Estate Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon. The core of this wine is Cabernet Sauvignon grown on steep, west facing terraces that rise above the winery, reaching a towering elevation of 1,400 feet. Other contiguous vineyard blocks yielding fruit of mature character and balance incorporate a great diversity of soils and exposures, providing additional complexity and unmistakable mountain terroir.
(96 Points) The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Estate Vineyard is a powerful wine with tons of mountain character. Ash, graphite, dried flower, iron and host of savory notes all run through the Mountain Estate Cabernet. Swaths of tannin wrap around this brooding, virile Sonoma Cabernet. The 2018 is going to need at least a few years to soften. For readers who want to know what Sonoma Cabernet is all about, this is a great place to start. In this vintage, the has a fairly high amount of Franc (13%), which really seems to add aromatic lift as well as energy. This is one of the great values in high-end, artisan California Cabernet Sauvignon. Antonio Galloni, Vinous
