You got yours, and I got mine -

Wine, Wine, Wine, Wine, Wine!

Cabernet Sauvignon is the most popular red wine in the world today and when it comes to immediate gratification wines this varietal it is hard to beat.

Most people know about Napa Valley's Cabernet Sauvignon and although it only accounts for around 3-5% of the total production in terms of volume it is probably closer to 40-50% of all the total volume in terms of dollars.   They do make great Cabernet Sauvignon in Sonoma and even places like the Santa Cruz Mountains but the most sought after Cabernet Sauvignon from California comes from Napa Valley.

The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is a relatively new invention it is the result of the combination of a white varietal Sauvignon Blanc and a red grape Cabernet Franc crossed by some mad grape scientist in southwest France in the 17th century.  Because of its thick skin and relative ease of cultivation this varietal has spread around the world and makes high quality full bodied red wines in many parts of the wine world.

California Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the easiest wine tastings to sell, can you say immediate gratification, but these wines can age for 20+ years in a very good vintage.   Cabernet Sauvignon always draws a crowd and this is a walk around wine tasting featuring 20 different Cabernet Sauvignon’s mostly from Napa Valley.  The fee for this tasting is $95 + tax for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

2006 HENDRY 'HENDRY VINEYARD' CABERNET SAUVIGNON, NAPA VALLEY MAGNUM

Price: $225.00               Your Price: $198.00              Quantity in Stock: 12

Hendry Blocks 8, 16, 17 and 18 are located on bench lands west of the town of Napa. The vines grow on thin stony soil between 150 and 300 feet above sea level. Morning fog and strong afternoon breezes from San Pablo Bay moderate our vineyard’s climate.

The vines in Block 8 were planted in 1974 and are 35 years old. They are spaced 8’ x 10’, cordon-trained. The clone is U.C.D. 7, grafted to St. George roots. A seven-foot vertical trellis system supports the cordon and the canopy. Average production is approximately 2 tons per acre. Blocks 16, 17, and 18 were planted in 1996, 1996, and 1997. They are also on St. George rootstock. They are grafted to U.C.D. clones 7 and 4, and 337/15. Their inclusion in our Cabernet Sauvignon marks a milestone in the vines' maturity. At 12 and 13 years old, they have reached a significant level of depth and complexity.

Release notes: The majority of the grapes for this wine (54%) still come from the venerable Block 8, one of our oldest and most consistently distinctive blocks. Silky entry, surprisingly rich upon first opening, though patience is rewarded. Textbook Cabernet aromas of berry/currant, cocoa, mint, eucalyptus and cedary oak reveal themselves with time and air. Structured, fine-grained tannins.

2018 HENDRY 'HENDRY VINEYARD' CABERNET SAUVIGNON, NAPA VALLEY

Price: $82.50   Sale $72.60

(91 Points) After 21 months in 90% new French oak (and a bit of time in bottle), Hendry's 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon—a blend of several blocks and clones from the estate vineyard—remains impressively dark in the glass. Marked by subtle shadings of tobacco leaf and cedar, with pronounced notes of black cherries and cassis, it's a nicely balanced, reasonably priced offering. Medium to full-bodied, smooth and gently tannic, it finishes silky, with hints of bay leaf and sage. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2018 PALAZZO "RESERVE" NAPA VALLEY PROPRIETARY RED

Price: $84.00                 Your Price: $73.92

(94 points) “The 2018 Right Bank Proprietary Red Reserve checks in as mostly Merlot yet includes 24% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Raised in 40% new barrels, it has a perfumed, exotic nose of uber-ripe black cherries, blueberries, ginger, and baking spices. Full-bodied on the palate, it’s a blockbuster styled effort with sweet tannins and a great finish. It pushes on the ripeness scale (although the alcohol and pH are rock-solid), but it stays in check and is joy to drink. Drink bottles over the coming decade. (JD)” (5/2022)  Jeb Dunnuck

2014 VOLKER EISELE CABERNET SAUVIGNON NAPA

Price: $67.50                 Your Price: $59.40

(91 Points) The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, which marks their 42nd vintage, is a dense ruby/plum-colored wine with elegant red and blackcurrant fruit, plum, spice box and earth. It is medium to full-bodied with gentle tannins, pure fruit and lush, round generosity. It is not the biggest and most exuberant Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa, but it is flavorful, complex and beautifully crafted. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.  Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2013 VOLKER EISELE CABERNET SAUVIGNON TERZETTO NAPA MAGNUM

Price: $265.00               Your Price: $233.20

Volker Eisele Family Estate creates enticing wines from the Napa Valley. Organically farmed since 1974, the Estate produces wines of uncommon balance and finesse. All fruit for our limited production wine is grown in our Chiles Valley District vineyard. The elevation and northwesterly Pacific winds funneling through the valley, create a longer cooler growing season. This combination of factors yield aromatic, crisp fruit with bright acidity and structed tannins. Our decades of experience in farming one vineyard means the quality of our wine is consistent year in, year out.

Our winemakers’ philosophy is, “To use a light hand in crafting varietally-correct wines that make the taster think about where they were grown, and not who made them.

~ Molly Lippitt, Winemaker

The 2017 vintage in general is a bit lighter and more drinkable in style but this is a blockbuster, a delicious wine today but will age for 10-15 years easily in the cellar.  This is one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons from napa Valley that I have tasted this year!  Finish 50+             KILLER

While admiring the cranberry red hue, forward fruit aromatics of black cherry and cassis begin to make your mouth water before the first sip! On the palate, juicy notes of blueberry compote and cherry cordial meld seamlessly with hints of cinnamon and cream soda. The wine methodically transitions from the bright, round entry through the viscous midpalate and onto a broad-shouldered finish.
