We love vintage wines and have some incredible tastings featuring wines going back 100+ years of age. I tend to like wines that still have a good amount of fruit left and although you can keep Bordeaux for a long time in some cases 50-100 years I tend to like them from 20-40 years of age. For my taste that is when great Bordeaux from great vintages really starts to hit its peak years of drinkability.
Looking around the store I found that we had a bottle of 1961 vintage Chateau Lynch Bages, so I figured it’s time to do a little experiment to see just how this vintage is drinking and of course we have thrown in a few other vintages to see how they compare with some of the oldest Bordeaux that we have in store from a decade apart old wines like 1966, 1970, 1971, 1978 1983 which are all a bit older than I like but the 1989 and 1990 vintages are two that I would consider are drinking at their peak right now and the 1995 may still be a bit too young but that’s why we do these tastings just to see how the world’s greatest wines are drinking today.
