"Never understood a single word he said but I helped him drink his wine…and he always had some mighty fine wine." -- 3 Dog Night

I remember the 2000 vintage from Bordeaux very well, the reports of how great the vintage was after harvest and with the millennial vintage on the label, this was sure to be a vintage that would be in great demand.  The wines were bubbling away in their fermentation tanks and consumers were eager to buy them even before Robert Parker Jr's lips or any other wine critic had even whiffed the fumes of the juices, but the hype had begun.

The wines sold out quickly once the reviews hit and it was one of the last years that there were a lot of reasonably priced wines in the Grand Cru Classe range from the left bank on futures.  The 2000 vintage from Bordeaux is just starting to drink at or near their peak but the top wines are still very youthful.  We just received a small selection of 2000 vintage Bordeaux and whenever we get a dozen or more wines from a vintage like 2000 it is time to put an event on the calendar to put some work in.

As I like to say we are doing scientific research with wine and you know that I can’t resist myself when I get wines like this in so I immediately put a date on the calendar to drink some of these 2000 vintage Bordeaux before they are gone again!

Join us as we experience this vintage at 25 years of age along with a special meal to accompany these 2000 vintage Bordeaux.  The fee for this tasting which includes dinner is $325 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463.  Please let us know when you make your reservation if you have any food allergies or aversions and chefs Toni and Dani will be happy to accommodate you.

2000 Vintage Bordeaux on SALE!

Chateau Ausone Saint Emilion Grand Cru ...

2000 Chateau Ausone Saint Emilion

Price: $1900.00                  Sale Price: $1460.00         Quantity in Stock: 1

(98 points) "Its saturated purple color was followed by a surprisingly more evolved and open wine than I had written in my tasting note in 2003, where I predicted maturity between 2020 and 2075. This wine displays wonderful, sweet tannin and a big, sweet kiss of truffle, crushed rock, blueberry, blackberry, and licorice. Extremely rich, full-bodied, with astonishing power, precision, and delicacy, this is a sumptuous wine that should age well for 50-60 year." Wine Advocate

2000 Chateau Calon Segur St Estephe

Price: $199.00                     Sale Price: $169.00                           Quantity in Stock: 13

(91 Points) Back when my bottle reports came out in 2003, I urged extreme patience for this wine, which is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. I projected a maturity curve of 2012-2040, but based on this tasting, I would say the wine needs another 5-6 years, so call it 2016-2040+. One of the most unyielding wines in my tastings of the 2000s, the wine still has a very healthy, deep, dark ruby color, and earthy hints of herbs, licorice, and black currants. Medium to full-bodied, the hard, elevated tannins give this wine a certain austerity, but its outstanding weight, richness, and that very classic style argue for further discipline. Forget this for another 3-4 years and drink it over the following three decades. Wine Advocate # 189 Jun 2010

2000 Chateau Gruaud Larose Saint Julien

Price: $250.00                     Sale Price: $195.00           Quantity in Stock: 19

(94 Points) A very strong effort for Gruaud Larose, possibly eclipsed by what they have done in 2009, this is a pure, full-bodied Gruaud Larose with plenty of new saddle leather, cedar wood, black currants, cherries, licorice, and Provencal herbs. Spicy, earthy, full-bodied, and rich, it has hit its plateau of full maturity, where it should stay for another 20 or more years. Wine Advocate # 189 Jun 2010

2000 Chateau La Clusiere Saint Emilion Grand Cru

Price: $1300.00                  Sale Price: $1055.00                         Quantity in Stock: 1

(98 points) "If awards were handed out for the most concentrated wine of the vintage, this would probably win. Concentration alone is not enough. Here you also find multiple layers of fruits, rocks and limestone, complex aromatics, opulent, if not decadent textures and a polish to the tannins that is difficult to replicate. No longer produced. 2001 was the finial vintage, it's worth tracking down a bottle or two, just for the experience. Still young, I am not popping my bottles for at least another 3-5 more years." Wine Enthusiast

2000 Chateau La Grave a Pomerol Trigant de Boisset, Pomerol, France

Price: $250.00                     Sale Price: $195.00           Quantity in Stock: 7

Tasting Notes: An extra ordinary combination of soft, velvet style wine, nicely developed and at the same time withhold power and great richness on nose. On the palate it is broad and soft, with fine and polite tannins with a long, fresh and persistent finish.

2000 Chateau Lafite Rothschild Pauillac

Price: $1650.00                  Sale Price: $1195.00         Quantity in Stock: 1

(100 Points) Subtle aromas of currants, leather, tobacco and cedar. Classic cigar box nose, with fruit. Full-bodied, with an amazing texture of silky, ripe tannins. This wine completely coats your palate, but caresses it at the same time. This is the best young Lafite ever made. A triumph. Best after 2012. 18,000 cases made. “JS Wine Spectator Issue: Mar 31, 2003

2000 Chateau Latour Pauillac

Price: $1500.00                  Sale Price: $1195.00         Quantity in Stock: 1

(98 Points) There are only 14,000 cases (only 48% of the crop made it into the grand vin) of the 2000, which flirts with perfection. Truly great stuff, it reveals perfect equilibrium, great finesse, yet colossal size, with a thickness and density that rival the brilliant 1996. This saturated black ruby/purple colored wine seems almost discreet on first inspection, but with aeration, notes of vanilla, exceptionally pure, mineral infused creme de cassis, and earth emerge. Full-bodied and tannic, it should come close to representing perfection. Latours 2000 is hard to compare with previous vintages. It obviously does not have the opulence of the 1990 and 1982, yet there is an extraordinary purity, delineation, seamlessness, and freshness to this wine that sets it apart from previous vintages. In any event, it is prodigious, with at least five decades of evolution ahead of it. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2050. The Wine Advocate, Issue 146, April 2003

2000 Chateau Leoville Barton St Julien

Price: $250.00                     Sale Price: $195.00           Quantity in Stock: 4

(95+ Points) I found this to be one of the more backward wines of the 2000 vintage and gave it a window of maturity of 2015-2040 when I reviewed it in 2003. In my two recent tastings of it, I changed that window to 2018-2050, which probably says more than the following tasting note could say. This is a behemoth – dense, highly extracted, very tannic, broodingly backward, with a dense purple color and very little evolution since it was bottled 8 years ago. Wonderfully sweet cedar and fruitcake notes are intermixed with hints of creme de cassis, licorice, and earthy forest floor. It is full-bodied and tannic, with everything in place, but like so many wines that come from Leoville Barton, it makes a mockery of many modern-day consumers wanting a wine for immediate gratification. Those who bought it should continue to exercise patience and be proud to own a wonderful classic with five decades of longevity ahead of it.  Wine Advocate #189, Jun 2010

2000 Chateau Leoville Poyferre Saint Julien 375ml

Price: $145.00                     Sale Price: $115.00           Quantity in Stock: 8

(97 Points) Absolutely knockout stuff, the 2000 Léoville Poyferré is a sexy, layered, totally irresistible Bordeaux that’s firing on all cylinders today. Sporting a deep ruby/purple color and blockbuster notes of blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings, cedar and tobacco, this concentrated, powerful 2000 has a rounded, opulent texture, sweet tannin, and a huge finish. It’s a quintessential Poyferré and my only regret is I didn’t buy more. It’s going to keep for another two decades.  Review Date: 02/2018, Jeb Dunnuck

2000 Chateau Marojallia Margaux

Price: $179.00                     Your Price: $157.52           Quantity in Stock: 1

(96 Points) From the partnership of Jean-Luc Thunevin and Muriel Andraud, the 2000 Marojallia was thought to be a flash-in-the-pan garage wine in 2000, but it is showing its stature and gravitas with its powerful evolution. The wine has a deep ruby/purple color and a beautiful nose of subtle charcoal, jus de viande, violets, blueberries, and black currants. Elegant yet full, pure, and substantial, this wine has wonderful suppleness, length, and a terrific finish.  Review Date: 06/2010, Wine Advocate

2000 Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron Pauillac

Price: $360.00                     Sale Price: $310.00           Quantity in Stock: 1

(97 points) This is one of the great wines of the vintage, and certainly a candidate for one of the finest wines made at this estate under the management of Christian Seeley and proprietor AXA. Showing incredibly well at two tastings of 2000s, the wine has a dense bluish/purple color and a beautiful nose of incense, melted asphalt, and creme de cassis as well as hints of new saddle leather and licorice. It is superbly concentrated and very pure, with excellent texture and opulence. The acidity seems low, the tannin high but well-integrated. This is a compelling 2000 that is just closing in on its window of maturity and should stay there for at least 20 or more years. Bravo! Wine Advocate #189 Jun 2010
