The Wines of Bordeaux give tone to the stomach, while leaving the mouth fresh and the head clear.  More than one invalid abandoned by the doctors has been seen to drink the good old wine of Bordeaux and return to health.

--Comments by members of the Jury judging Bordeaux wines submitted under the new 1855 classification at the 1855 World's Fair in Paris, as noted in 1855: A History of the Bordeaux Classification

I like the idea of toning the stomach by drinking Bordeaux!  And if you want to do the ultimate tune up for your abs we have a line-up of Bordeaux that will make your belly shake.  This is one of our "Once in a lifetime" tasting events tonight we are showing twelve of the top wines from this legendary 1990 vintage that are now 34 years old and drinking at their peak!

The 1982 was the GOAT for many years but some of the 1982 vintage Bordeaux are now a bit past their prime and the new GOAT is the 1990 vintage for Bordeaux.  It was an all around great vintage in Bordeaux and the wines are drinking at their peak right now for my taste.

If you can’t make this tasting I have put together an offering on this e-mail with all the wines from the 1990 vintage that we have here in the store at Wine Watch.  Check out everything that we have in stock from Bordeaux on our web page www.winewatch.com for live real time inventory 24/7.

The fee for his tasting which includes dinner is $895 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.   Please let us know when you make your reservation if you have any dietary restrictions and chefs Toni and Dani will be happy to accommodate you.

Chateau Cheval Blanc 1990 | Wine.com

1990 CHATEAU CHEVAL BLANC ST. EMILION, FRANCE

Price: $2750.00               Sale Price: $2250.00              Quantity in Stock: 8

(98 Points) One of my favorite Cheval Blancs, it remains to be seen if the 1998, 2000, and 2008 will live up to this offering. It is the ripest wine of the aforementioned vintages, with a complex bouquet of tobacco leaf, Christmas fruitcake, sweet black fruits, bordering on fig and plum, but no hint of overripeness, and notions of new saddle leather, mint, and incense. The gorgeously expressive aromatics are followed by a full-bodied wine revealing abundant glycerin as well as elevated alcohol, but it is not hot, and nothing is out of place. Expansive, rich, and revealing the nuances and complexity that come from bottle age, it is at its peak of maturity where it should remain for another 10-15 years. Release price: ($3000.00/case) Wine Advocate #183, Jun 2009

1990 CHATEAU COS D'ESTOURNEL, SAINT-ESTEPHE, FRANCE MAGNUM

Price: $995.00                 Sale Price: $825.00              Quantity in Stock: 5

1990 CHATEAU COS D'ESTOURNEL, SAINT-ESTEPHE, FRANCE

Price: $495.00                 Sale Price: $395.00              Quantity in Stock: 15

(94 Points) Not as concentrated as the 1982, or as most of the vintages made since 2001, the 1990 Cos has reached full maturity. It exhibits sweet berry fruit intermixed with spice box, herbs, and spring flowers. Expansive, round, and sensual, with wonderful purity as well as lushness, this irresistible wine can be enjoyed over the next 6-10 years. Wine Advocate # 183, Jun 2009

1990 CHATEAU FIGEAC, SAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU, FRANCE

Price: $495.00                 Sale Price: $425.00              Quantity in Stock: 32

(94 Points) Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property. The 1990 Figeac was drinking gloriously and this is perhaps the best bottle that I have tasted. It is noticeably deep in color, in fact, deeper and more lucid than many vintages from the 1980s. It reminds me of the Lafleur 1990 in some ways, with its very expressive Cabernet Franc that manifests black truffle and cigar ash scents. There is such clarity here. The palate is medium-bodied and full of degraded black, earthy fruit. There is weight and presence here, gently gripping the mouth with a long tobacco-tinged finish that is still very satisfying. There is something still "old school" about this Figeac, but it certainly would be my pick from this era. Tasted June 2015.  Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

1990 CHATEAU GRAND PUY LACOSTE PAUILLAC

Price: $425.00                 Sale Price: $350.00              Quantity in Stock: 55

(95 points) The 1990 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a wine that I had not tasted for a number of years. For a long time it was stubborn and tannic, uncommon attributes in what was such a comely vintage. Now at 26 years of age, this bottle served by Xavier Borie suggests that finally the 1990 has come round. Deep in color, it has a gorgeous bouquet of black fruit, potpourri, graphite and melted tar. There is warmth here, but it does not impede upon the articulation of its origins in Pauillac. The palate has clearly melted in recent years, and maintains superb balance and weight. Sure, as Robert Parker himself remarked, it is evolving at a glacial pace—slower than the 1998 tasted alongside. That means its pleasure is going to be prolonged over many, many years. 1990 CHATEAU HAUT BRION PESSAC LEOGNAN

Price: $1400.00               Sale Price: $1095.00              Quantity in Stock: 1

(98 points)  In terms of the brilliant complexity and nobility of the aromatics, scorched earth, black currants, plums, charcoal, cedar, and spices, the 1990 offers an aromatic explosion that is unparalleled. It is always fascinating to taste this wine next to the 1989, which is a monumental effort, but much more backward and denser, without the aromatic complexity of the 1990. The 1990 put on weight after bottling, and is currently rich, full-bodied, opulent, even flamboyant by Haut Brion’s standards. It is an incredible expression of a noble terroir in a top vintage. 1990 Chateau Latour Pauillac, France (stained label)

Price: $1895.00     Sale Price: $1350.00 Quantity in Stock: 4

(100 points) This is one of my favorite wines ever. Full-bodied, with layers of silky fruit and masses of currant, mineral and berry character. Amazing. It's a wine with perfect structure, perfect strength. It's 1961 Latour in modern clothes. It's hard not to drink it now. (JS)  (2/2005)  Wine Spectator

1990 CHATEAU LAFON ROCHET ST. ESTEPHE

Price: $295.00                 Sale Price: $230.00              Quantity in Stock: 8

(90 points) "A bit rustic but very concentrated. Dark ruby color, with ripe berry and dried currant aromas. Full-bodied and chewy, with lots of fruit and a medium finish. Needs a bit of time.--1990 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2004. 12,000 cases made." (08/2000) Wine Spectator

1990 CHATEAU LASCOMBES MARGAUX

Price: $295.00                 Sale Price: $230.00              Quantity in Stock: 17

(86 Points) Exhibiting good tannin, the exotic, orange-scented 1990 offers up ripe aromas of tropical fruits, cassis, and new oak. Rich, medium to full-bodied, with excellent concentration, low acidity, and a velvety, even voluptuous mouth-feel, this wine should provide delicious drinking over the next 8-10 years.  Robert Parker Jr - The Wine Advocate, 27 February 1993

1990 Chateau Leoville Las Cases St. Julien

Price: $595.00     Sale Price: $475.00 Quantity in Stock: 6

(96 Points) My notes on the 1989 and 1990 wines have been consistent over the last three years. The 1989 continues to lose ground, although it is obviously an outstanding wine, while the 1990 continues to escalate in quality. The 1990 continues to put on weight and richness, and it now clearly appears to be the superior vintage for Leoville-Las-Cases. The 1990 reveals a dense, dark purple color, followed by a sweet, pure nose of black fruits, minerals, lead pencil, and vanillin. Broad, expansive flavors come across as rich, pure, and concentrated, but never heavy or coarse. Beautifully integrated tannin and acidity are barely noticeable in this classic, full-bodied, velvety-textured, youthful yet exceptional St.-Julien. The 1990 is more fun to taste than the 1989, but readers should not interpret that comment to suggest it is ready to drink. This wine needs another 5-6 years of cellaring, after which it should last for 20-25 years. Wine Advocate # 109 February 1997

1990 CHATEAU LAFLEUR POMEROL

Price: $4200.00               Sale Price: $3555.00              Quantity in Stock: 3

(97 points) “This wine goes from strength to strength, and is developing even better than I initially expected. More backward than most of the big, Cabernet Sauvignon-based 1990 Medocs, it is full-bodied and viscous, but not as thick or oily as the 1982 can be. The 1990's fresh, pure black raspberry, incense, and minerality characteristics result in a young, legendary wine. Still deep ruby/purple to the rim as well as extraordinarily intense, it is 4-10 years away from full maturity, and should evolve for another 30+ years. It is an amazing achievement! (RP)” (6/2009) Wine Advocate

1990 CHATEAU LYNCH BAGES PAUILLAC

Price: $750.00                 Sale Price: $595.00              Quantity in Stock: 14

(99 points) “This magnificent Lynch Bages has been drinking well since the day it was released and it continues to go from strength to strength. The biggest, richest, fullest-bodied Lynch Bages until the 2000, the fully mature 1990 exhibits an unbelievably explosive nose of black currants, cedarwood, herbs and spice. The majestic, classically Bordeaux aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, voluptuously textured, rich, intense wine with superb purity as well as thrilling levels of fruit, glycerin and sweetness. (RP)” (8/2011)  Wine Advocate

1990 CHATEAU MONTROSE ST. ESTEPHE MAGNUM

Price: $2695.00               Sale Price: $2250.00              Quantity in Stock: 9

1990 CHATEAU MONTROSE ST. ESTEPHE

Price: $1350.00               Sale Price: $975.00              Quantity in Stock: 6

(100 points) “Now, here was the real deal, unfettered by any infection, a regal Saint Estèphe. It shows approximately the same evolution as the 1989 in bottle, but unsurprisingly showed less bricking in magnum format. The bouquet is cut from a different cloth to the 1989 and attests to that warm vintage: hickory, clove, undergrowth and wild fennel, later garrigue-like scents and terracotta, the latter two more pronounced on the bottle format compared to the youthful magnum. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, yet the balance is perfect, a ballerina-like poise with the structure of the Forth Bridge. It is a multi-layered Montrose that offers enormous length, fresh and vibrant with the magnum demonstrating tangible mineralite and tension as it fans out on the crescendo of a finish—a fanfare for Saint Estèphe in all its glory. Improving all the time in the glass, this example of 1990 Montrose is a privilege to behold. (NM)” (3/2017) Wine Advocate

1990 CHATEAU MONTROSE LA DAME DE MONTROSE ST. ESTEPHE

Price: $330.00                 Sale Price: $275.00              Quantity in Stock: 19

1990 CHATEAU PAPE CLEMENT PESSAC LEOGNAN MAGNUM

Price: $795.00                 Sale Price: $650.00              Quantity in Stock: 1

(93 points) “I still have the better part of a case of the 1990 Pape Clément in my cellar, and though I have been dipping in to check on its evolution every couple of years over the last decade, I still find this excellent wine a bit too young for primetime drinking. It is one of the most structured vintages of Pape Clément that I have tasted from this golden era at the estate, and a few more years in the cellar to allow more tannins to fall away still seems merited. The bouquet today is pure, complex and utterly classic, offering up a smoky blend of black cherries, cigar wrapper, gravelly soil tones, a bit of iron filings, a discreet touch of toasty oak, a bit of Graves medicinal overtones and hints of red fruit to come in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and beautifully soil-driven, with an excellent core, very good purity for the vintage and still a surprising bit of chewy, youthful tannin perking up the long and complex finish. It is certainly approachable today, but it seems to have gotten a bit sleepy again and closed down a bit more and I would now let it rest comfortably in the cellar for another few years before starting to look for it at its plateau of maturity.” (3/2019) John Gilman

1990 CHATEAU PICHON LONGUEVILLE COMTESSE DE LALANDE PAUILLAC

Price: $550.00                 Sale Price: $450.00              Quantity in Stock: 50

(94 Points) Concentrated. Medium-ruby color, with ripe plum, cigar tobacco and smoke aromas. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish.  Wine Spectator
