Tuscany is one of Italy’s leading wine producing regions and is home to some Italy’s most popular wines like Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti Classico as well as "Super Tuscan" wines like Tignanello, Sassicaia and Ornellaia. These great Tuscan wines are some of the most collected and coveted wines coming from Italy today. Italian wine collectors also probably have a few wines made from my favorite grape Nebbiolo. The great Nebbiolo based wines of the Piedmont are the main ingredient of Barolo and Barbaresco and also benefit from time in the cellar.
So, when one of South Florida’s biggest wine collectors Dr. Robert Maliner sent me a list of wines from two of the best vintages from the last 40 years; 1989 and 1990, which I have been touting are drinking at their peak today. I immediately put a date on the calendar to experience these great wines in their peak years of drinking.
We do a lot of scientific research with wine here at Wine Watch and have been finding at our recent wine drinking events that both the 1989 and 1990 vintages a finishing on top in terms of our crowd’s favorite wines at the end of the night. So, I have included a list of all the wines from these two great vintages on this offering for all of you that can’t make the tasting.
