If I were ever in the same predicament, I could see myself doing something very similar to pass the time. Even one day without wine is hard for me to imagine but to be in a situation where I had to go weeks may just do me in.
If you invested in first growths from 1982 you would have paid around $50 per bottle for these wines upon release. Today, we have the 1982 Lafite Rothschild for sale on this offering at a price of $2999.00. The 1982 vintage was one of the best investments that you could have ever made in the world of fine wine and we are drinking some great wines tonight from 1982 but the 1983 vintage may be the most overlooked vintage from Bordeaux, the vintage following such a great year often is. So when we received a collection of wines that had several wines from both vintages I said it’s time to see just how much better 1982 is than 1983. As I always say- “we are doing scientific work with wine here at the Wine Watch”.
If you have these wines in your cellar today they are drinking at or near their peak and we will be opening six wines from the 1982 vintage alongside six 1983 vintage Bordeaux the same Chateau. This evening you get a chance to see how these two vintages are showing right now and for those of you that can’t make the event we have an incredible offering of Bordeaux from these Chateau and from both the 1982 and 1983 vintages on this offering.
The fee for this tasting is less than the price of several of the wines on the table tonight and there are only 14 spaces available. Dubbed by some wine critics as the greatest vintage of all time and this is the vintage that put Robert Parker Jr. on the map as a wine critic. This is a vintage where the best wines are still drinking at their peak but some of the lesser wines have started to fade a bit. It is still an experience to drink these wines today but the time is now and they are getting harder and harder to find, these vintage Bordeaux treasures will not last for long on the shelf at Wine Watch.

The 1983 vintage is a very good vintage but followed the stellar 1982 vintage some collectors completely overlooked 1983. The clear thing about 10983 is the price these wines are a much better value today than their 1982 counterparts. The best wines form the 1983 vintage are still drinking beautifully today and the best will still be good for years to come. We have an incredible collection of wines from this excellent vintage and we may never see a collection like this ever again of 1983 vintage Bordeaux.
