We just received a collection of wines that had a bunch of cool stuff from the 1966 vintage. These wines are now 60 years old and although that is really old for a bottle of wine, for those of you who are turning 60 years old this year it is always fun to taste through a collection of wines from your birth year but the older you get the harder it is to find wines from your vintage. It took me all year to come up with this list of wines to host an event celebrating this great year in Bordeaux, Italy and Oporto.
The 1966 vintage in Bordeaux is widely regarded as an excellent and classic year for red wines of Bordeaux, defined by traditional structure, finesse, and remarkable longevity. The 1966 vintage in Tuscany was generally considered an average to mediocre year rather than a standout or classic harvest. The 1966 vintage in Port is widely regarded as an outstanding and classic post-war year, though it is often playfully overshadowed in public memory by the legendary 1963 vintage.
