You’ll see exactly what we mean during our interview with Jeff Loomis of Loomis Estate Vineyards. The Loomis journey started around 2005 and is going strong. The sole Napa Valley producer growing and making wine from 100% Rhone varieties, Loomis Estate Vineyards is doing something different and unique in the region. Jeff Loomis’ inspiration began in Avignon, with a bike ride through Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It was an experience and a revelation about wine that awaked him to what wine could be - wine as part of an experience, part of a meal, as opposed to just a beverage. “It’s got to be fun. There’s a lot of pretentiousness in the wine business. You have to drink it this way, out of this glass. Let’s just enjoy the experience of being with friends, having this wonderful food together and living life to its fullest.” All grapes are grown on the Loomis Estate. Six clones of Syrah, 3 clones Grenache Noir, Mourvedre, Counoise, Grenache Blanc and Viognier at an elevation of 2000 feet in the middle of an oak forest. Napa is famous the world over for Cabs. And here you have Rhones. When people discover Rhones, the lightbulb goes off. Why not be a Rhone rebel? Why not try something different? People come up and drink Cabernet and Chardonnay every day, but now they can have a Rhone experience in the Napa Valley. Loomis wines are fun and named after the elements. Whimsical and memorable. The initial line is rosé is Air, white is Snow and the red Ember. Winery is now offering their latest round of blends, with only microscopic productions.
