2010 Sequana Pinot Noir Green Valley Russian River

APPELLATION

The Russian River Valley is among the premier Pinot Noir growing regions in California.

Fog rolls across the Estero Americano through Valley Ford and the Petaluma Gap, allowing the grapes to rest most evenings before greeting the sun late each morning. In this coolest part of the Russian River Valley, the extended growing season, well-drained Goldridge soils and a generally Mediterranean climate results in complex, elegant wines with well-balanced acidity and distinctive notes of ripe cherry.

VINEYARDS

Exceptional vineyards are featured here, including lots from Sundawg Ridge, Dutton Ranch and Lakeview in Russian River’s Green Valley. The Pommard clone brings intense, rich colors, a luxurious mouth feel and silky tannins to this offering, alongside the

Dijon Clone115, known for its aromatics and Burgundian characteristics.

WINE

Grapes from the Green Valley sites were hand-picked and hand-sorted, then cold-soaked for five days prior to fermentation to maximize flavor and color extraction. Hand punch-downs in small open-top fermenters provided rich color and structure, and the wine was aged sur lie in

French oak barrels for 11 months prior to bottling, where it was allowed to gain further complexity before release.

This wine has a distinctive and recognizable Russian River flavor profile. On the nose, the wine carries a bouquet of rose petal and spice that lead to flavors of bing cherry and raspberry on the palate. The finish is layered and balanced, with dusty earth overtones.

WINEMAKER

Winemaker James MacPhail has long been recognized for producing exceptional wines from the Sonoma Coast and Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley. With Sequana, he extends his touch to feature vineyard designates and exceptional cuvées from notable growers in the Russian River Valley and Monterey’s well-regarded Santa Lucia High- lands, crafting limited-release wines of exceptional character and grace.
