Water and wine are the only two things that I drink for the most part and hey why do we need water at all wine is 80-85% water!!

This is the first big party at the Wine Bar to start off the summer, we will be hosting a series of more casual walk around events this summer that will featuring a specific theme but this first one is just to break us into the spirit of the summer.

There were 6 vineyard sites that were planted when the Hwang family bought this property, all of them were considered to be of Grand Cru status from years ago when this region was considered to be among the world's elite wine producing regions. The vineyard were in bad need of attention and they are still recovering from the high yields and the chemical fertilizers that were used in the past. The first dry wine was created in 2006 from the Furmint varietal. This wine was also introduced in 2005, this innovative dry wine wondrously balances Furmint’s viscous intensity and bright acidity. It has a unique bouquet of tobacco and mint to the tangerine citrus and a flinty character also here in the nose. Sweet tart like fruit on the tongue with nice freshness and a balance. 2017 AUGUST BRIGGS CHARDONNAY LEVERONI VINEYARD CARNEROS

This wine comes from the great Leveroni vineyard located on the Sonoma County side of Carneros, just south of the town of Sonoma. This marks the 22nd year from which we have made wine from this acclaimed vineyard. The 2017 was characterized by being early; early bud break, early flowering, early veraison and early harvest. Thankfully we harvested the grapes before the damaging fires of 2017.
This wine has a light golden color and effuses aromas of poached pear, lemon zest, vanilla bean and pineapple. Medium-bodied, it completely coats the palate with satiny textured tropical and fresh citrus fruits, featuring hints of mineral accents and a long, uplifting finish. Perfect for pairing with any dish that plays off fruit flavors, like mahi mahi with pineapple-jalapeno salsa. Yum!
The grapes for this wine were picked at 24.8 brix then whole-cluster pressed, cold settled, inoculated with yeast, and racked to barrels for fermentation. Barrels used were 100% French, with 25% being new and 75% being a mix of 2 year old barrels from the previous vintage. After completion of fermentation the wine was inoculated with a malo-lactic culture, stirred weekly, and sur-lees aged 8 months. 206 cases produced.

2017 SCHERRER WINERY SCHERRER VINEYARDS CHARDONNAY ALEXANDER VALLEY

Winery Notes:  This is a rich and complex expression of Chardonnay from the Scherrer Vineyard. The grapes were whole-cluster pressed to French oak cooperage, where primary and malolactic fermentation occurred. All of these elements were allowed to integrate during its more than yearlong residence in wood. It was bottled without fining or filtration to respect both its delicacy and its more substantial qualities.
Winemaker's Notes:  Fresh green apple, baked Gravenstein apple, wet stones, baking spices greet the nose and echo on the palate. A haunting floral note on the front end like apple or plum blossoms and plays hide and seek with the fresh apple notes. There is a good balance of angles (acidity and tannin) and rounds (glycerol), great length and good salivary response on the finish which makes this so versatile with food. These Chardonnays age really well and evolve rather than just get ‘wrinkles.’ I wish we had more bottles of past vintages in the library to show and sell. But word has gotten out that they evolve into something special so library wines have been fairly well cleaned out though there is still enough held back to continue to offer some on the 16th. In a time when far extremes of style seem to polarize the discussion of what is valid, ours is a refreshing alternative, somewhere in the happy middle ground. Yields per acre are extremely low, about 1 ton per acre, and this site overachieves regularly.

2018 Francesca’s nose is clean as fresh ripe raspberries jump from the glass. It is of medium weight in the mouth and reminds Alex of a 1er Cru from Beaune, such as a Clos des Mouches or a Vignes Franches. Its distinct mineral mouth feel, not heavy nor light, has the texture one finds in wines grown in the limestone of Burgundy. It will be at its best in 2-4 years.

2018 Bentrock has the rich nose of the Cote de Nuits with the black briary fruit one finds in the wines of Morey-St. Denis and the 1er Crus on the north side of Gevrey-Chambertin such as Combe au Moine and Les Cazetiers. Its mouth feel, really the texture of the wine, is complex and sophisticated giving the wine a long finish. It will be at its best in 4-6 years.

This fun little number with Pinot Noir on the label is made with fruit exclusively from Savigny-Lès-Beaune, and some of the fruit is also from old vines.  A beautiful "everyday" Burgundy of excellent quality at under $30 per bottle!  The vintage and the house style show clearly in this wine. It gives lots of forward and pure red berry fruit on the nose with hints of fresh earth, flowers and some exotic spice here - a classic Burgundian scent.  One the palate this wine is clean and has delicious red berry fruit with good depth and complexity for a wine at this price.  Finish 35+  Very Good +

The folks at Buty Winery showcase fruit from three prized vineyards Phinny Hill in the Horse Heaven Hills, Conner Lee Vineyard in the Columbia Basin and their own Rockgarden Estate in The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater for this remarkable and approachable blend of Left Bank Bordeaux with Cotes du Rhone. Indeed, it's made up of Cabernet Sauvignon (28%), Merlot (16%), Malbec (12%) and Cabernet Franc (10%) with Syrah (24%), Mourvedre (7%) and Grenache (3%). While the barrel program is 100% French oak, only 6% of the wood was new, allowing for a theme of Chukar Cherry and dried currant with herbal notes of lavender and sage. Juicy acidity akin to strawberry and boysenberry makes for a bright approach with well managed tannins.

2011 PURO UNO MALBEC GRAN RESERVA MENDOZA

The Gran Reserva is a stunning example of what the most serious old vine Malbec can become when everything comes together the right way. Produced from a Single Vineyard located in Lujan de Cuyo.  Lots of dark blackberry fruit, fig and dark spices with notes of toasty oak and some dark earthy highlights on the nose.  A big and chewy wine on the tongue but with ripe round tannins big but still quite fresh and a long-layered finish.  This wine should age for another decade or more in your cellar but it is starting to drink very nicely with a few hours in a decanter.  The 2011 vintage in Mendoza is classic in style with excellent freshness, it has the concentration and depth of a Mendoza wine but the balance and freshness of a Bordeaux.
