"Yo . . . did you check that Boonesfarm vintage Y2K? That was dope! It was big and bright with the complexity of Kool Aid! It was jammy like a PBJ without those earthy tannins! You hear what I'm saying?"
There are so many great choices in the $20 and under section of the store today there is no reason to drink Boonesfarm! I always say “Drink the Good Stuff First” and we’re trying to take down as many KILLER bottles as we can like the 15 wines from Braida Winery tomorrow night and the 10 wines at our 2009 Brown Bag tasting on Friday of this week.
Check out the menu for this week on the bottom of this e-mail but we are already sold out at the Wine Bar for Saturday night! We still have a few seats left for Thursday and Friday this week.
Next week we will have our first 1970’s themed wine tasting party! This was a decade that spawned Star Wars, Jaws, The God Father, Rocky, Disco Dancing, Deviled Eggs, Hamburger Helper and the best wines were still from France with a few exceptions from Spain, Italy and California. We had a few really good wineries in Napa Valley at that time and it will be interesting to try the 1975 Heitz Martha’s and the 1979 BV Georges De Latour next to the 100 point 1975 La Mission Haut Brion! I have included pictures of all the wines that we are drinking this evening to show you the conditions of the bottles, most are in perfect shape for such old bottles 40+ years of age today.
Toni has a special tasting menu to commemorate some of these classic dishes that were created in the 1970’s and we have an optional 1970’s dress up theme for this party if you still have some of your outfits from this era now is the time to bust them out of the closet.
There are only 14 spaces available for this 1970’s Disco party wine tasting and admission is $250 + tax. For reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

1971 Château de La Tour Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Price: $495.00 Your Price: $435.60 Quantity in Stock: 1
This is my all-time favorite vintage from Burgundy when it comes to old wines and this is an excellent specimen.
1976 Domaine Perrot Minot Gevrey Chambertin
Price: $145.00 Sale Price: $120.00 Quantity in Stock: 4
This is a great small domaine and the bottle is in perfect shape there are no great vintages just great bottles once wines get to be this old!
1970 Château Canon Saint Emilion
Price: $159.00 Your Price: $139.92 Quantity in Stock: 2
This was the best vintage of the decade for the 1970’s for the most part but you can find some great wines from 1975 and 1978 with the 1971 vintage being excellent for Pomerol but the 1970’s as a whole were not great in Bordeaux. It was a decade of experimentation lots of pesticides and some good rock and roll why are we having a disco party?
1970 Chateau Montrose St. Estephe
Price: $275.00 Your Price: $242.00 Quantity in Stock: 4
(92 Points) This is one 1970 that appears to possess the necessary components to develop into something special. It remains youthfully hard and astringent, but there is no doubting the high levels of concentration and intensity. Moreover, the wine exhibits a classy, complex bouquet, offering up scents of cedar, black fruits, minerals, and leather. Full-bodied, powerful, and rich, with outstanding concentration, this wine requires another 7-10 years of cellaring - can you believe that? It is unquestionably a 40-50-year wine. 1975 Heitz Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa
Price: $500.00 Sale Price: $400.00 Quantity in Stock: 2
(93 points) The 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard is quite pretty and powerful, but also a bit forward, while the 1975 impresses for its pure depth and richness, both remarkable for a wine that is nearly 40 years old! (AG) (6/2013) Vinous
1975 Château La Mission Haut-Brion Pessac Leognan
Price: $1350.00 Sale $1188.00 Quantity in Stock: 1
(100 Points) The 1975 La Mission-Haut-Brion has been the most consistent wine of the vintage. Super-concentrated, and now beginning to shed enough tannin so that it can be fully appreciated, this enormously constituted La Mission-Haut-Brion has developed that fabulous Graves set of aromatics - tobacco, black fruits, minerals, roasted herbs, and cedar. Huge, massive, thick, and succulent, with moderate tannin, and some amber notes at the edge, this wine will reach full maturity by the turn of the century and last for 30-40 years. An extraordinary La Mission-Haut-Brion, it comes closest in style to resembling the 1945, with a hint of the sweet, ripe 1959. The notes for this wine are taken from the description of Series I of the 1995 tasting conducted in Munich by Helga and Hardy Rodenstock. Many years after the tasting from which this note derives allegations were made concerning the authenticity of old and rare bottles of wine sold by Hardy Rodenstock to collectors around the world. The matter has been the subject of numerous articles, litigation and at least one book. Mr. Parker believes that the wines served to him at this tasting were authentic so this note and the others from that specific tasting continue to be posted on eRobertParker.com. Below are a set of photos of the actual bottles. The larger an image of the labels, while the smaller image illustrates the fill in the bottles.
1979 Chateau Leoville Las Cases St.Julien

(89 ponts)Lean and focused, with well-articulated currant and berry flavors that lie gently on the palate. Has elegance and flavors that persist.--Leoville Las Cases vertical. Drink now through 2000. –HS Wine Spectator Issue: Feb 15, 1992
1979 Beaulieu Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon George de Latour Reserve Napa
Price: $190.00 Sale Price: $150.00 Quantity in Stock: 1
Price: $180.00 Sale Price: $145.00 Quantity in Stock: 1
(93 points) Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. (RP) (1/1989) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
