There is nothing that says party like a big bottle and in case you have not heard as of July 1st it will be legal to sell bottles up to 15 liters in the state of Florida!   Thanks to our good friend Chip Lamarca who is the state representative that has been working on the bill to make this happen over the last five years and Governor Ron Desantis was here at Wine Watch to sign the bill into law!





We have a big party planned for July 3rd and we will also be putting together an incredible offering featuring the largest list of big bottles ever offered in the state of Florida.  Those of you that know me know that I LOVE big bottles and we have an incredible collection of Magnums and 3 Liters in the store right now and I have been placing orders with some of our good friends so we can have these wines available for the holidays this year.  Never ship a big bottle over the summer months unless you are drinking it as they almost always leak this time of year, Especially the really big ones but anything larger than a magnum should wait till the fall to ship.  Here are all the 6-liter bottles and up and will be available for purchase on July 1st and some will be arriving in the fall as indicated on the offering.

(91 points) The current bottling of Taittinger’s “Brut La Française” shares the same cépages as the Brut Réserve (forty percent chardonnay, thirty-five percent pinot noir and twenty-five percent pinot meunier), with the wine spending one additional year aging on its fine lees prior to disgorgement. The bouquet on the wine is lovely, offering a classy blend of pear, apple, a complex base of limestone soil, bread dough, gently musky, meunier floral tones and a bit of smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, full and zesty, with fine mid-palate depth, youthful acids, frothy mousse and very good length and grip on the still quite primary finish. This has such nice balance that it is eminently drinkable today, but it really is still a puppy and would be happy with a bit of bottle age to allow its secondary layers of complexity to emerge.  (5/2023)  John Gilman

The very deep and vibrant nose wafts from the glass in a blaze of red and black cherries, venison, espresso, bonfires, beautifully complex minerality, herb tones and a judicious base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and properly reserved in personality, with a rock solid core, ripe, well-integrated tannins and superb length and grip on the very energetic and classy finish. (93 points)  Corton “Pougets” can often be a bit marked by its structure out of the blocks, but the elegance of the 2011 vintage has worked its magic on this climat and the wine is about as suave a young Pougets as I can recall tasting from Louis Jadot. The deep and very refined nose jumps from the glass in a blend of red and black cherries, gamebirds, woodsmoke, fresh herb tones, a very complex base of stony soil tones and a nice touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and properly reserved, with a rock solid core of fruit, firm, ripe tannins and outstanding focus and grip on the very long and youthful finish. As it sat in the glass, the 1985 faded more than any other vintage, but its immense up-front pleasure cannot be denied. This is a wine to decant right before serving, and not to linger over. (95 points) This bottle marks the special 50th anniversary of this wine. A little red sticker on the front label commemorates the five decades that have passed since grandfather Primo Pacenti did his first harvest. The medium-weight Canalicchio di Sopra 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows a generous spread of forest fruit, licorice, blue flower, bay leaf, Provence herbs and fragrant wet soil aromas. There is a touch of earthy muskiness that some like to refer to as 'foxy.' Fruit for this Brunello represents a selection of clusters harvested over 10 hectares at 300 to 320 meters above sea level in two sites: Canalicchio and Montosoli. Canalicchio has clay soils for the structure of the wine, and Montosoli adds to the clarity of the aromas. All the vines are over 10 years old. Fermentation is in stainless steel, and aging spans 36 months in Slavonian oak casks. This wine from the warm and sunny 2015 vintage maintains its trademark crispness and freshness nonetheless. Aged two years in French oak, there are 3,000 cases of this spectacular wine. Dense ruby/purple-colored, with a chocolate espresso-scented nose infused with cherry liqueur, it is a full-bodied, sweet wine with wonderful fatness, terrific ripeness, plenty of glycerin, and a chewy, long, spicy finish.
