"wasting our time on cheap talk and wine, left us so little to give"

Best of My Love by the Eagles

We don't drink cheap wine or talk to people that do.

Tuscany is one of Italy's leading wine producing regions and is home to some Italy's most popular wines like Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti Classico as well as "Supertuscan" wines like Tignanello, Sassicaia and Ornellaia.  We put in a lot of work over the last month or so studying all the major wine regions and I thought to finish up our studies in Tuscan wines we would host a Happy Hour with Tuscan wines.  This tasting will feature some of the latest releases in the Rosso di Montalcino category along with a few older wines of course.

This is a more casual event, a belly up to the bar, hang out with your friends and drink some great wines.  The food is casual; this is not a sit-down dinner- a true "Happy Hour" style event mix and immingle with our "Wine Drinking People" and of course GREAT wines.

This tasting starts at 6pm and chef Toni will be making some appetizers to accompany the tasting wines.  The fee for this tasting is $95 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

2015 Il Palazzone Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG Magnum

Price: $300.00                 50% OFF SALE Price: $150.00  Quantity in Stock: 18

(93 Points) The Il Palazzone 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva sources its fruit from three vineyard sites and undergoes 36 long months of aging in traditional oak casks. The last time we saw a Riserva from this estate was in 2010, and previous releases include 2001, 2004 and 2006. This is a silky wine with light textural fiber and bright accents of red fruit, cherry, raspberry and blue flower. These results are lithe and graceful. They will speak to those who appreciate the more lightweight side of Brunello. Drinking window 2023 - 2043. The Wine Advocate - Nov 2020

All the Rosso di Montalcino in the store on SALE!!

They make three wines in Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino Riserva.  The Rosso di Montalcino is sometimes referred to as baby Brunello and is made every year but in great vintages like 2021 most producers make a tiny amount of Rosso and more Brunello di Montalcino and Riserva Brunello.  So in GREAT vintages like 2021 you can get an outstanding bottle of 100% Sangiovese at a GREAT price compared to that of the top level Brunello today and a wine that is ready to drink upon release.

2022 Banfi Rosso Di Montalcino Poggio Alle Mura

Price: $33.50                    Your Price: $29.48

This is a colonal selection and a new label from Banfi only the eight release of this wine aged in 350 liter barrique made by Gamba. Has a wonderful intensity on the nose wild strawberry fruit, pretty floral notes and light smoky toasty oak spice along with fresh plowed earth, fine herbs, nice complexity for a Rosso. A very juicy wine with lots of red berry fruit, a good hand of that earth and floral notes from the nose through the finish and wonderful structure for a Rosso. finish 40+ Excellent

2022 Canalicchio di Sopra Rosso Di Montalcino

Price: $48.00                    Your Price: $42.24          Quantity in Stock: 10

(91+ points) Eric Guido, VINOUS: "Remarkably pretty and spicy to the core, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino blossoms in the glass with a bouquet of rose petals and wild strawberries offset by white pepper. This is lifted and graceful in style with a salty, saline core that grumbles beneath its ripe wild berry fruits. It finishes tense and structured, with a trace of sour cranberry and citrus that tugs at the cheeks. The purity of Sangiovese is on full display here. Have patience with the 2022 because the best is yet to come. Drink: 2025-2030..." 12/23 Vinous Media

2021 Canalicchio Di Sopra Rosso di Montalcino

Price: $47.00                    Your Price: $41.36          Quantity in Stock: 3

(91 Points) Canalicchio di Sopra takes great care with its entry-level wine, the 2021 Rosso di Montalcino. It displays a warm and generous personality despite its petite stature and pleasantly streamlined mouthfeel. Along the way, this Sangiovese emits dark cherry, cassis, blue flower, iris root and a rusty-mineral note. There is structure here and good fruit weight, which makes this much more than your standard Rosso.  Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2021 Castello Romitorio 'Colto' Rosso di Montalcino, Tuscany

Price: $55.00                    Your Price: $48.40          Quantity in Stock: 10

Colto is aged in our cellar for 6 months in wood, 6 months in cement and 6 months in the bottle before being released. A glorious expression of Sangiovese from the region’s cooler northwestern climate, this is a wine with noteworthy potential for aging that will develop complexity, character and grace with additional time in the cellar.

2022 Sesti Rosso Di Montalcino Tuscan DOC

Price: $42.75                    Your Price: $37.62          Quantity in Stock: 5

Elisa Sesti likes to say that Sangiovese is a prima donna variety that requires pampering and the right conditions to thrive—and pamper it, she does! Her Rosso di Montalcino, with its seductive and mood-enhancing perfume, is like a delicious elixir of black cherry, bitter herbs, and fragrant violet.

2022 Valdicava Rosso di Montalcino

Price: $52.50    Your Price: $46.20          Quantity in Stock: 1

WINEWATCH TASTING NOTES: The 2022 Rossi has a beautiful bouquet of black cherry, balsamic and hints of herbs and mushroom along with aromas of eucalyptus, tea leaves and violets.  On the palate the tannins are soft and well integrated, a good amount of ripe succulent fruit from the first sip on the finish this wine might seem a bit austere but the more it breathes the more refined it becomes with a silky and elegant finish on the pallet. Very approachable and ready to drink, but will age for a decade or more in the cellar.  Finish 45+    TASTING DATE 9/21/24  Excellent +

2021 Valdicava Rosso Di Montalcino

Finish 45 Excellent

2017 Baricci Colombaio Montosoli Rosso Di Montalcino

Price: $40.25                    Your Price: $35.42          Quantity in Stock: 2

Bright ruby red. Intense with hints of berries, fresh fruits and a hint of cherry. Harmonically dry, it has strength and freshness with an elegant aromatic finish. -baricci.it

2016 San Filippo Lo Scorno Rosso di Montalcino

Price: $25.00                    Your Price: $22.00          Quantity in Stock: 4

Located in the SE part of Montalcino, close to Fanti and Barbi, very rocky, poor soils and the vineyards are over 25 years old, they only produce 45,000 bottles. This wine spends one year in 50% new barrique and then into large Slovonian oak, they blend the large and small barrels to give a smoother and rounder wine but not cover the delicate fruit. Has a touch of toasty oak spice to the light red berry fruit some light dried herbs, sage and fresh plowed earth, porcini mushroom notes. A very elegant wine with smooth soft tannins and a nice fresh finish echoing the light spice and the earthy notes through the finish, light red berry fruit and nice length on the finish for a rosso. Finish 40+ Excellent

2015 Brunello di Montalcino – A Classic Vintage at only 10 years of Age

2015 Baricci Colombaio Montosoli Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

Price: $97.50                    Your Price: $85.80          Quantity in Stock: 1

(96 points) Outer quote mark The Baricci 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is highly distinguished by its mineral side (with marl, marine fossil, schist quartz and Galestro soils), and that is truly the magic of this wine. There is a pungent note of raw grape at first, but it lifts to reveal forest berry, camphor ash and subtle touches of sweet spice. These elements come together like a tightly fitted mosaic. The wine is balanced and fresh, with just enough structure to add firmness and considerable length to its polished mid-weight frame. In fact, mouthfeel is this wine's strongest suit. Acidity is never a problem in Montosoli, located on the north side of Montalcino where day and night temperature shifts play an important role in slow fruit ripening. This warm vintage shows higher extract, but the overall balance allowed Baricci to bottle using very little sulfur (which could account for that little tangy note you get on first nose). 2015 Il Poggione Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva

Price: $137.75                 Your Price: $121.22       Quantity in Stock: 5

(97 Points) This single-vineyard Riserva delivers a generous, abundant and determined personality. This is Brunello with a capital B. The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli benefits from a warm and sun-soaked microclimate that is shielded from cold winter winds. You can taste the good health of the grapes thanks to those very direct aromas of black cherry, plum, tar, campfire ash and chalky mineral. The Paganelli vineyard is 12 hectares in size, with vines planted in 1964. The last time this wine was made was in 2012. Fruit from those old vines shape complex aromas, elegant tannins and bright freshness. Despite that handsome DNA, this is another new release from Il Poggione that will require more cellar age.  Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2015 Il Palazzone Brunello Di Montalcino

Price: $82.50                    Your Price: $72.60          Quantity in Stock: 1

Richard Parsons was the president of the LA Clippers, was the CEO of Citigroup and Time Warner.  This wine has a classic brunello bouquet of fine herbs, sage, light red berry fruit, wild strawberry, insence, spice and dried floral highlights.  Nice concentration and depth of flavors on the palate, lots of zedsty red berry fruit, a very elegant style of Brunello with a long finish echoing the floral/herbs and spice from the nose through the finish.  Finish 45+    Excellent +

2015 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino Magnum

Price: $305.00                 Your Price: $268.40       Quantity in Stock: 2

2015 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino

Price: $196.00                 Your Price: $172.48       Quantity in Stock: 19

(95 Points) This bottle marks the special 50th anniversary of this wine. A little red sticker on the front label commemorates the five decades that have passed since grandfather Primo Pacenti did his first harvest. The medium-weight Canalicchio di Sopra 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows a generous spread of forest fruit, licorice, blue flower, bay leaf, Provence herbs and fragrant wet soil aromas. There is a touch of earthy muskiness that some like to refer to as "foxy." Fruit for this Brunello represents a selection of clusters harvested over 10 hectares at 300 to 320 meters above sea level in two sites: Canalicchio and Montosoli. Canalicchio has clay soils for the structure of the wine, and Montosoli adds to the clarity of the aromas. All the vines are over 10 years old. Fermentation is in stainless steel, and aging spans 36 months in Slavonian oak casks. This wine from the warm and sunny 2015 vintage maintains its trademark crispness and freshness nonetheless.  Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2015 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino Casaccia

Price: $225.00                 Sale Price: $198.00                       Quantity in Stock: 5

(98 Points) The Canalicchio di Sopra 2015 Brunello di Montalcino La Casaccia represents a new chapter in this estate's long history. This is a single-vineyard expression from the Canalicchio area, one of the most interesting subzones on the northeast side of Montalcino. Giving identity to individual parcels gives an estate like this huge potential for further expression and experimentation. The site is a little over two hectares, and it has dense, mineral-rich clay soils that add more power and a heavier center of gravity. The vines were planted in 1990. I notice slightly firmer tannin here, with a very distinct level of acidity purity. You also get lasting berry fruit favors with blueberry and dried raspberry followed by spice, licorice and lavender buds from the south of France and the rim of the Mediterranean. The wine is distinguished by endnotes of balsam or medicinal herb that grow in strength with time. It offers plenty of volume and weight. Not counting the various large format bottles made, only 3,610 750-milliliter bottles were produced. They were filled in May 2019, and the wine hit the market in January 2020. -Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

2015 Salvioni Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiola DOCG

Price: $250.00                 Your Price: $220.00       Quantity in Stock: 2

(96 Points) After skipping over the 2014 vintage, Salvioni comes out swinging with the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiola. This is a classic Brunello, with one foot firmly planted in a sense of place and the other in varietal purity. You really can't ask for more in a world-class Brunello such as this, hailing from a highly ranked vintage. Thanks to the sunny and warm growing season, the fiber and texture of this wine is a little looser and thicker compared to the cooler 2013 vintage. This beautiful wine, by contrast, delivers a knockout blow of saturated color loaded with dark cherry and blackberry aromas, all backed by spice, potting soil, crushed rocks, iron ore, ash, violets and blood orange. There is a subtle point of softness or sweetness on the finish that is a signature of this vintage. (ML)  Review Date: 10/2020, Wine Advocate

2015 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

Price: $206.00                 Your Price: $181.28       Quantity in Stock: 4

(95 Points) Ripe cherry, plum, raspberry, earth and almond flavors combine in this supple red. Vivid and well-defined by the sleek structure, ending with earth, wild herb and mineral accents. Very pure, verging on racy. Best from 2023 through 2045.  Wine Spectator
