Gundlach BUNDSCHU WINE TASTING WITH SPECIAL GUEST JEFF BUNDSHU Thursday, May 8, 2025 - 7:30 PM and all the Gun Bun Wines in the store on SALE!!
If you can’t say “Gundlach Bundschu Gewurztraminer” you shouldn’t be driving!
We have strict rules about drinking and driving in my house and in Australia they have to put the number of drinks that you can consume in an hour on every alcohol container that is sold. That’s how I know that I can consume one 6-ounce glass of wine every hour and still be below the legal limit when I drive home at 11pm. I start drinking at 4pm and that is 7 glasses or 42 ounces of wine that I consume before driving home every night. Then, I continue my wine studies at home and get make my 2 bottle per day goal every day!
We have a lot of great scientific work with wine going on in May and on a few occasions this year we have hosted two events on the same evening. I may have to get a car service soon at this rate.
Join us as we welcome the oldest family-owned winery in California to South Florida with Jeff Bundschu the 5th Generation of the Bundschu family here to showcase all the newest releases from Gun Lock Bun Shoe. The fee for this tasting which includes dinner is $225 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

A bit about Jeff Bundschu:
Jeff Bundschu is no stranger to the lure of the vin as a sixth-generation California vintner, wine has been in his family since 1858. Jeff was raised on the family estate in Sonoma and began working on the vineyards at 12 years old. Jeff attended college in Los Angeles, where he earned a degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California. An intrepid explorer, he traveled extensively following graduation.
In 1993, he returned to Sonoma Valley, surrendering to the powerful pull of the (fun) six-generation family business. Already knowing his way around the winery from his childhood, he took on learning sales and marketing by representing Bundschu Company and their oldest brand, Gundlach Bundschu, throughout the country. This experience convinced him that the wine industry needed to expand its outreach and approachability to a larger portion of the population, leading him double down on the family ethos and continue to enhance the authenticity, fun and complexity of the Gundlach Bundschu portfolio with quality and education at the forefront.
In a circumstance unique to traditional family businesses, Jeff was appointed President of Gundlach Bundschu Winery in 2001, at the age of 33. His father, Jim, had similarly taken the reins at a young age, convincing his father to redefine the estate vision to meet the opportunities and challenges of the day. And so, Jim handed control to Jeff, who set out to achieve a vision of Gundlach Bundschu – to be the best estate winery in Sonoma County.
Equally important to Jeff is the preservation of the open-minded and spirited culture with which the winery has long been associated—which he today brings to the parent company, Bundschu Company, its brands and experiences. “Our life here at Bundschu Company with its wine and good people has always been about laughter, hard work, enjoying the inspiration that comes from being in such a beautiful place, and sharing what we have with our friends and neighbors.
Jeff makes his home in Sonoma with his wife Liz and their two children.

2023 Gundlach Bundschu Gewurztraminer Sonoma Coast
Price: $29.00 Your Price: $25.50
No, its NOT sweet! Fermented with ZERO residual sugar, this outrageously aromatic (lychee, roses, honeysuckle) white wine is bone dry and a GunBun favorite. Brisk, clean and grapefruity, its an ideal companion to spicy food (Gewurz means spice in German), like Curries and Thai...or all by itself. Unique clones from vines originally planted by Jacob Gundlach in 1858, there is nothing like it in the world.

Winemaker Notes: Swirl, sip and taste notes of black currant, a bundle of blackberries, cocoa nibs and even a hint of graham cracker. We recommend you pair it with a sweet and spicy flavor profile, like Korean short ribs, or for a simpler night in, it goes perfectly with a platter of dried jack cheese and fresh cherries as well.
Blend: 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec
(94 Points) Potent, earthy aromas like dried black figs, black truffles and oak char lead to a firm, tannic palate packed with black fruits, dark chocolate, graphite and cedar notes. The wine is intensely concentrated, showing good potential for aging. Wine Enthusiast
2019 GUNDLACH BUNDSCHU CABERNET SAUVIGNON VINTAGE RESERVE SONOMA
Price: $157.50 Your Price: $138.60
(95 Points) This powerful, intense and firmly textured wine waves the flag for great Sonoma-grown Cabernet. It wraps fine-grained tannins around just-ripe black fruit flavors and tempting oak accents of cinnamon, char and clove. Not overly ripe, the wine shows great balance and should expect a long life. Best from 2028-2038. -Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast
2018 GUNDLACH BUNDSCHU CABERNET SAUVIGNON VINTAGE RESERVE SONOMA

(93 Points) The 2018 Vintage Reserve is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec, 3% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. Youthful touches of cedar and vanilla give way to blackcurrant, mint chocolate, thyme, leather and charcuterie on the nose. The full-bodied palate offers powerful, dark fruit framed by grainy tannins and refreshing acidity, and it has a long, latent finish. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
2016 GUNDLACH BUNDSCHU CABERNET SAUVIGNON VINTAGE RESERVE SONOMA
Price: $121.50 Your Price: $106.92 Quantity in Stock: 1
The 2016 Vintage Reserve benefitted from a glorious growing season, resulting in another stellar example of the best of Rhinefarm. Fresh blackberry and black currant aromas are spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon bark with an underlying layer of earth and clove. Medium in body and supported structurally by fine tannins and fresh acidity, this youthful, instant classic will develop beautifully over the next 8+ years but has the finesse for immediate enjoyment.
A bit about Gundlach Bundschu:
Closing in on 160 years of history, over six generations, the Bundschu family has farmed the Rhinefarm estate vineyard at the crossroads of the Sonoma Valley, Carneros and Napa Valley appellations. Today, we focus on making small lots of ultra-premium wines from this distinctive and historic property. Enjoy exploring us and our wines on our website or by simply pulling a cork.
Established in 1858, Gundlach Bundschu’s estate vineyards are located 35 miles north of San Francisco on the southwesterly slopes of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. It’s located at the southernmost point in Sonoma Valley, flanked by the Carneros district to the south, Napa Valley to the east and nestled within the larger Sonoma Coast American Viticultural Area. Rhinefarm has a unique combination of steep hillsides and cool valley floor sites, allowing us to grow a broad variety of wines at a very high-quality level.
Rhinefarm’s terrain below 150-feet elevation is ideally suited for earlier-ripening, high-acid varieties. Cool air settles over the valley floor, where ancient bay waters deposited mineral-rich sediment and pockets of light stream gravel in the Huichica clay-loam soils. We focus on Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay on this gently sloping terrain, where growing conditions consistently deliver minerality and focused acidity.
Above 150 feet, the terrain is dominated by Arrowhead Mountain, and the rocky, shallow soils consist of rhyolitic volcanic ash and alluvial wash. Steep hillside blocks are planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small plantings of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Syrah and Zinfandel. Pervasive maritime breezes and long daylight exposure allow for slow, even ripening, resulting in deep color, intense flavor concentration and elegant balance in the wines.
Rhinefarm’s 320 acres are intensively and sustainably hand-farmed in 60 distinct blocks according to the specific soil, exposure, slope and vine age of the site. Each block is individually monitored and tended throughout the growing season to ensure optimal health of the vine and the vineyard, and ultimately to achieve the goals for flavor development and ripeness. Each vine is touched over a dozen times throughout the season, from suckering and shoot positioning to judicious leafing and cluster thinning to ensure slow, even ripening. Pound-per-vine targets vary by block, based on vine spacing and other factors; ranch yields average two to four tons per acre.
