2011 Swanson Pinot Grigio Napa

Tasting Notes

The aromas of this wine are refreshing, showing pear, litchi and Meyer lemon. On the palate, peach, melon and a touch of guava are revealed. is blend shows considerable minerality and weight, and evokes perhaps more a ripe Alsatian Pinot Gris than an Italian Pinot Grigio. As always, this wine reects the ripe, succulent Pinot Grigio grapes from which it originated. Pair this wine with light pasta dishes and almost any seafood. Serve chilled.

Vineyard Notes

We grew 52% of the Pinot Grigio for this wine at our sustainably-farmed Oakville Estate, where clay-loam soils and meticulous vine management consistently produce a small crop of ultra-premium grapes. 28% of the fruit came from a cool location in Napa’s Oak Knoll district, and 11% from a small, super-premium Santa Barbara vineyard.

Winemaker Notes

The season began with heavy March rains and a cool spring, followed by enough warm weather in May to ensure a good fruit set. July and August were cool, with no temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. Moderate weather conditions in early September made it easy for us to hand-harvest quickly in the cold early morning hours over a 2-week period. Cool temperatures meant fresh acidity in the fruit, which was cold-pressed immediately upon arrival at the winery. e nal blend included 9% Chardonnay from our Oakville Estate.
